Gah, My Cat!!
Hello,
So my cat hugh got hit by a car about 8 weeks ago, he had his Op and they pinned his pelivs back together. So i've had him in cage rest for about 7 weeks now, the vets advised about 10 weeks. But i need a bit of guidance maybe if someone has been in the same posistion before, HES DRIVING ME CRAZY! I'm finding it really hard to cope with him lately he destroys his cage, even though i do get him out 6-7 times per day for about 15 minutes at a time.He doesnt stop crying, ripping his bed up .I've spoke to the vets they suggested the Feliway Diffuser which i got today and its plugged in now (hopefully the Feliway magic will work for me) But there is only so much the vet can do over the phone, im wondering if there is anyone out there who has had a similar situation before, and also if youve got any tips for me ANY at all. Thanks, Peter |

Re: Gah, My Cat!!
Sorry to hear about Hugh. Cage rest is never easy. Was his broken pelvis the only injury? Since he's got it pinned I'd also speak to the vet about extended periods outside the cage where he'll be more settled. He's already completed seven weeks as well. Hope the Felliway helps in the meantime.

Re: Gah, My Cat!!
I would suggest covering him with a lightweight blanket when he needs a nap (or when you thnk he does).
You could try the Feliway spray in the room he is in, I find it works faster than the plug in. Bach Rescue Remedy in his water, just a little, or rub a little drop into his ears to calm him down.

Re: Gah, My Cat!!
Ianthi - His broken pelivs was the main part of the injusy, but he has several other fractues with that. I've spoken to my vet and told them that i get him out quite alot in the daytime, But he still doesnt seem to settle when he is in the cage.
I havent yet tried the blanket method, think i will do that tonight see how it goes. Feliway doesnt seem to have taken any affect as of yet, but ive read that it can take a while to get going. Still any other suggestions would be much appreciated Thanks Peter |

Re: Gah, My Cat!!
Zylkene capsules can work wonders. They can be obtained without a prescription. They have a very calming settling effect on cats, they mimic the chemical in a mother cats milk that calms and helps kittens sleep.
Google it. Feliway can take weeks to work, Zylkene usually works after one or two capsules. If your cat is not good with tablets, it can be opened and spinkled over food (tastes fine). Call your vet and ask about it. It's fairly new to the market (4-5 years). Last edited by kittenshavemittens; 07-09-2011 at 02:09 PM.. |

Re: Gah, My Cat!!
i Havent yet looked into these tablets, the cat is keeping me too busy!
But i surely will, the feliway still doesnt seem to have worked but im hoping Tried the blanket method a few times, first time he decided he would rip it off the cage, other times ive only been away for 30 mins or so. But overall, hes still.. driving me crazy! Peter |

Re: Gah, My Cat!!
The tablets I suggested are inexpensive, and can be bought over the counter at the vets, without an appointment!
Fingers crossed the Feliway kicks in after a week. Though, Feliway doesn't work for every cat, unfortunately. Thank you for updating, sending you and your cat massive hugs. |
