Re: Kitten Won't Touch Wet Food
If she really won't touch wet and you've tried all sorts of good quality ones thenI would change your dry - Tesco's and Go_Cat aren't good. Try Orijen or Applaws or Acana (yes they are expensive but they eat a lot less of it so it works out a decent value in the end) Even JWB is better than what you are feeding now.
Check out this link A-Z of dry food for cats

Re: Kitten Won't Touch Wet Food
We had so many problems during the first year of owning our cats and it was all down to whiskers!
Also we have been advised not to worry about wet food even though ours do eat it. The vet said wet food would only become neccessary if your cat wasnt drinking enough water. As wet food is made up mostly of water it helps with hydration. Ours are now fed Science Plan Dry Food with a pouch of Whiskers So Fishy every now and again (about once or twice a month) as a treat! They have never been so healthy and content! |

Quote:
Yes wet food is made up of a lot of water but that is PRECISELY the point. Dry dehydrates a cat - there is no way a normal cat will drink enough to compensate for eating dry - it's something like 1/2 pint of water per 50g of dry. Cats have evolved to get all their water from their food and so have no thirst drive. They don't know how to drink enough. Why wait until your cat has an issue with it's kidneys or UTIs because it is fed dry and THEN put it on wet? Why not stop those problems developing and feed wet from the beginning? Science plan is expensive for what it is - if you must feed dry feed a better one that will effectively cost you less cos you aren't paying for them to poop out all the crap they put into dry. Oh, and dry doesn't clean teeth - cats either gulp it down or bite it in two and it shatters - no massaging of gums etc - no benefit to teeth at all! I wish some vets would go boil their heads!

Re: Kitten Won't Touch Wet Food
Folks I find it really hard to believe that anyone's cat won't eat wet food at all. Yes it might take a long time, even months to wean them off dry but I believe 100% it's possible
Anyone willing to take up the challenge? ![]() Cocopops ~ I have to agree with Spid, your vet is a prat. Might not be his fault though, he has probably had the Hills/Science plan brainwash training while in vet school, and there after.

Re: Kitten Won't Touch Wet Food
Or maybe you should consider to give real fish, maybe it will love it. My cats are craving for wet foods and real fish, but they don't like Friskies dry food. They like whiskas dry food.
