Re: Kitten Won't Touch Wet Food

One of ours is a bit of a dry addict, I have found that if I give him dry on a regular basis then he will start to hold out for it and reject wet food. My suggestion is to stop feeding dry except as the occasional treat and you will probably find your cat will try the wet if that is all that is available.

Re: Kitten Won't Touch Wet Food

Spartacus definitely prefers dry - we've cut her down to one small portion a day as she would have happily not had any wet food at all.

We feed wet in a morning, then around 2-3pm (depending on OH's work shift) the cats get fed a small portion of dry in their donut:

Trixie Cat-Track: Great Deals on Cat Toys at zooplus

We removed the ball and the feather thing (well, Hercules destroyed the feather thing) and their biscuits get poured into it so that they have to use their brains to eat by pawing the biscuits out. Its slows them down as they have been known to gobble down their biscuits a bit too quick.... and although hiccups is cute... a pile of half digested cat biscuits being vomited up isnt

As its a regular times thing, and they have to interact to get their food, they think its a treat rather than their normal food. So if like last week mummy forgot to order the biscuits... they dont mind so much!

...and then around 9pm, they get their second portion of wet.

Spartacus now gets excited when its biscuit time, but as she knows she only gets it in the afternoon, she eats her breakfast and tea without any complaints. Hercules on the other hand never complains. He'll eat anything, anytime.

Cocopops ~ I have to agree with Spid, your vet is a prat. Might not be his fault though, he has probably had the Hills/Science plan brainwash training while in vet school, and there after.
Lol Aurelia, ive been trying to get my Archie to eat wet food for 8weeks now Ive tried all the tricks, but because he has a poorly kidney i have read its best to get them to eat something rather than nothing, i give him a choice of wet food every day. Some days he will lick at it others he will just walk away. Today my friend gave some reindeer bozita wet food, on its own he wouldnt eat it but i sprinkled some thrive chicken treat on it and he scoffed the lot ( i was doing cartwheels}
I can see what you are saying and i will die trying to give Archie a better diet
Do you have any good ideas that might help me?

Re: Kitten Won't Touch Wet Food

My Persians won't touch wet food. They are on hills cd biscuits now and have been on hills science plan the whole time I have had them. Roony would rather starve than eat wet food he will not even eat freshly cooked chicken or fish. Cant even vary the flavour as he wont eat anything other than chicken flavoured biscuits. My other cat has a mixture of wet and dry. I know a lot of people that only feed dry.

Out of interest, why do you now feed Hills CD?

I reckon for kitties who are very choosy a bit of trickery is required.

Day one ... start with a tiny tiny amount of wet in his dry food, like maybe just the tip of a teaspoon full. Mix it in really well so it's hardly noticable.

Then slowly, and I mean slowly start increasing it while decreasing the dry at the same time.

I can't stress enough though that you would have to do it very slowly so they don't realise what's happening It might take a couple of months to get there.

Re: Kitten Won't Touch Wet Food

Thank you to everybody for your advice. I said in an earlier post that I was going to get some Applaws and Acana to try. Kitten Mo isn't to keen on either but my 2 adult cats absolutely love the Acana! Jack is a 99% wet food boy but he loves Acana dry. It must be because of the hight 65% meat content.
