Re: Worried about Zooplus and maggots
The flies could have got into the bin on their own, they have a rapid life cycle & even the most fastidious bin will still smell attractive to flies as soon as something like a catfood tin goes in there

Re: Worried about Zooplus and maggots
How often do you get rid of your rubbish and where in Spain are you?
If there's meat in it, and you've been having the kind of temperatures we have lately, you need to be getting it down to the bins daily.

Re: Worried about Zooplus and maggots
we used to get our food waste collected every fornight by our local council. We used to quite often find in the summer no matter how well we double bagged food waste, and kept bin lid down we would get maggots. The bin would then be washed etc after emptying but it would still happen. Now we get weekly collections it has stopped happening. It is likely food waste in general that is causing it

Re: Worried about Zooplus and maggots
Itīs been really hot here, we do dispose of the waste often but itīs true that since it was so hot the windows are open and I have seen a number of flies. Probably the cause is Merlinīs food as he takes his sweet time to eat if he isnīt crazy about it

Re: Worried about Zooplus and maggots
I think I am probably the originator of that post!
It was an isolated incident and presumably there had been a fault with the canning process of that particular batch. The tins themselves were not dented or damaged in any way ( as Zooplus orders so often are! ) but when I opened the can it literally exploded with rotting, stinking meat. VILE So...it was really obvious that the food was already well rotted. I double bagged the resulting mess and put it in the bin outside but unfortunately it was almost a week till the bin was emptied and yes, I did have to face a mass of maggots infesting the bin. Not an experience I would wish to repeat, but I have gone on to use Zooplus and Bozita without further incident. |

Re: Worried about Zooplus and maggots
I'm so, so worried about this too. My house is all screened, so there's no way for flies to get in, and still I'm finding flies in the house. I can't see into the bins to see if there's maggots in there, but as there are no flies in the house, I don't know where else they'd be coming from! Help, someone! Will the kittens/cats' stomach acid destroy the eggs or will they end up with guts full of maggots?
