Re: Worried about Zooplus and maggots

It's highly unlikely that you would get maggots unless they were already in the food and that wouldn't be zooplus's fault that would be the actual pet food manufacturer.

The person who had a thread the other week that had maggots had split tins. Then flies would have been attracted to the open rotting meat and laid eggs hence maggots.

You shouldn't get maggots in sealed tins. If you have cat food waste you need to be very careful. All it takes is one fly to get in your bin. I recommend double bagging all food waste, tying up very tightly and emptying the kitchen bin at regular intervals.

I clean my outside bin with bleach every other collection as well. If you have maggots in your kitchen bin you would def know.

Re: Worried about Zooplus and maggots

I don't doubt it would be the manufacturer's fault if the maggots were in the tins, but is this a possibility? As I say, there's absolutely no way for flies to get into the house. I'm super paranoid about any insects. I'm blind you see, so can't tell the difference in a flay or a wasp until it stings me, so I'm more than careful, and yet, the flies keep appearing. Coincidence? I wonder. Think I might stop feeding Animonda for a while...

^^ This.

It is I should think nay impossible to get maggots in sealed tins. The food gets cooked in the tins and I doubt very much that any fly eggs would survive the cooking temperatures.

I, without any hesitation, would continue feeding Animonda.

Our house is fully fly screened, but flies still get in through the doors sometimes when we open them to go through them. As Cloudygirl said, all it takes is for one fly to get in and lay eggs, and then you can have maggots and flies breeding in your house - hence more flies.

Re: Worried about Zooplus and maggots

I still can't help but wonder. Perhaps it's just a bad batch or something as I've had notrouble until recently. I'll give you the occasional fly getting in, but in the last 7 months of being in this house, I've had 2 flies... In the last 2 weeks I've had 5. Might not sound like a lot, but they terrify me until someone deals with them.
