Re: NI Minces - advice
If Storm is a grown cat than you can calculate the daily portion yourself as it is between 2-3% of their body weight a day. As you said, kittens can eat as much as they want.
So, if Storm like my Bagpuss clocks in at 6.5 kg, than they can eat between 130g (2%) to 195g of raw a day. Personally, I go for the middle (2.5%). Initially, Storm's eyes may well be bigger than his tum but the food contains enough nutrients to satisfy his needs (as long as it is food following the correct ratios etc) so try not to give in too much to pleading eyes or Storm pretending to be a kitten again just so that he has got access to an unlimited food supply (Bagpuss' greatest wish is to be a raw fed kitten again). Exciting times! |

Re: NI Minces - advice
When we were on NI mince alone, with Orijen at lunch time, my 5kg (at the time) boys were on 100g a day with no problems and consequently now weigh between 5.5 and 6kg. Before this, Schrodinger seemed to struggle to gain any muscle or weight to catch his brother up. He's now one muscly boy!
![]() Our switch to NI came from feeding Bozita, I think initially (possibly for a week or two) there was plenty of meowing from Pandora complaining about the 'lack' of food.. But they soon were filled enough, I guess, once their systems got used to it. We now feed wet again, mainly so that there's something down to keep both boys and girls happy and they seem to regulate themselves pretty well which was my main concern. Schrodinger will only go for the NI mostly.. But Pandora seems to be preferring the wet again. They're an odd bunch! ![]()

Re: NI Minces - advice
He is such a greedy piglet though! Benji is the type of kitten to eat quite a lot, but he comes and goes so pretty much self regulates and I just put more down as and when the bowls are empty. Storm on the other hand eats like we haven't fed him for weeks and is always begging for more. He is health checked and wormed so the vet just thinks he is a greedy puddy tat. Up until 2-3 days ago Storm always had first say on both bowls of food even if they were in seperate rooms and Benji would wait until he was done, but these past fews days Storm has patiently waited for Benji to finish.
I'll go as per your feeding recommendation of around 80, and then he has his half tin of food in the evening as per usual. Do you think if I fed him solely raw, his greediness may decrease? Also, the boys really like their variety but NI only do the one flavour. Mobile Pet Foods also sell a brand called Prize Choice, are they any good?

Re: NI Minces - advice
I'm also in the process of introducing some raw into Rosso's diet and it seems to be doing him the world of good, it really does fill him up and no longer seems so 'frantic' in his eating habits... I bought some of Prize Choice from Pets at Home and he really wasn't impressed with it, took one sniff and walked off in disgust! It has a horrible, processed, mushy consistency and colour in my opinion (although I'm no expert)
He loves the Wild Rabbit from Woldsway Food Ltd tho', can't get enough of it... I thoroughly recommend them, they are really friendly and helpful and it comes beautifully packaged... |

It is helping with his tummy, his poos have been much firmer and formed since I started him with this (apart from a slight setback last week) and it has really helped with him seeming constantly hungry, he even left some of his lunch yesterday cos he was full up and that is unheard of!!! ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Re: NI Minces - advice
Glad they seem to be helping! He may have an allergy to fillers such as the gravy and just does well on good ol meat?
Hobbs, do you know if I'd need to add anything to the mince? Ems xxx
