which food will fill them up?

hi guys i need some suggestions for getting some more sleep!!

my cats have 3 meals a day. at the moment i feed;
1/2 pouch wet @ 5-6pm
1 pouch wet @ 10-11pm
15g dry @ 4am

as you can see my little monsters wake anytime from 3 - 5am for food and in an effort to get back to sleep i do get up and chuck a scoop of dry food in each of their bowls but quite often they dont settle back down and keep me awake. i dont feel i can use a timed feeder otherwise piggy Billy will eat it all and poor Gizzy would starve!!

I would really love to stop doing this and maybe trying to get them to sleep through to 530/6am.
so my question is do you think i would be better off moving those meals around?would dry food before bedtime fill them up anymore?

urgh sorry if this doesnt make much sense - i have been awake since 430
zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz desperate lol

Re: which food will fill them up?

What are you feeding them hun? 1.5 pouches a day and a little dry food sounds awfully little.

Also, at the moment the feeding times seem to be evening heavy. Could you perhaps feed them another meal in the morning?

Re: which food will fill them up?

the pouches are whiskas (which i know is carp but it is seriously all they will eat other than gourmet tins) and the dry is james well belloved.

I dont particularly want to feed them much more as they are indoors cats and Billy is abit big.

Would love to feed them in the morning rather than 4am but at the moment it would mean listening to crying and recieving headbutts for a few hours!!!

i know this all sounds rather silly but i need some sleep!

Re: which food will fill them up?

1.5 pouches really isn't very much, especially with Whiskas. I'm sure they recommend 3-4 pouches per cat per day?

My little chunks get given a pouch each whenever their bowls are empty - this is sometimes 4 times a day if they are hungry. When I go to work I give them a pouch and a half each in the morning, and then another pouch when I get home and one before bed. Thinking of getting a timed feeder so they can get something at midday when I'm at work though. My 2 are on Felix kitten but hopefully my Zooplus order will be here today so can get them onto Smilla

If they are only getting 1.5 pouches a day it is no wonder they are up at that time of the morning wanting more food. Echoing what Hobbs said - can you not give them food during the day instead of mostly in the evening?

Re: which food will fill them up?

i know it doesnt seem like much food but my girl is 4.5kg and my boy is 6.2kg so they are not starving!!

i am pretty sure that for an indoors cat whiskas say to feed 2 pouches a day. so i thought if i fed 1.5 and then a quarter of the daily jwb allowance then it would work out. but maybe you are right and i need to look at the figures again

ps good luck with the move to smilla - i have tried my 2 on all different foods over the last 2 yrs and have probably wasted hundreds of pounds but at least the local cpl do well from the rejected food!

Noone is saying they are starving but little food along with it mostly being in the evening could be why they are up so early etc. With those intervals, maybe 5am is when they seem to get hungry again. They go 12 hours without a meal so maybe they're seeing that as their 'night time' and so want fed more at night.

Just noticed your edit - thanks, my 2 seem to eat anything, I managed to get them off Morrisons own kitten food and onto Felix as I don't have a Morrisons local to me so no doubt moving to Smilla will be easy too (I hope!).

Re: which food will fill them up?

lol the not starving thing was just my way of saying i think they eat enough food

i will try to maybe change the meal times around abit, i am willing to try anything that helps!!

oh you are soooo lucky having cats that eat anything. i have tried so many wet foods i have lost count and in the end i just had to give up. i do plan to try a better dry food once the jwb is used up. probably applaws as they sell it in p@h.

I thought this too - they've got into that routine of knowing you will feed them if they wake you. Is there any way you can keep them out your room so they can't wake you? This is where different feeding times may help too though.
