Refrigeration Of Wet Food?

Hi all,

I am looking at switching my Kitten over to Bozita wet cat food. My Kitten is only 12 weeks, so eating about 200g of wet a day at mo.
The Bozita comes in 370g packets so, almost two days worth of food, it says on the website after opening it needs to be refrigerated, but I know wet food needs to be served at room temperature to avoid stomach upsets, but leaving out for a hour before serving sometimes isn't always a option. Do people use microwaves to warm a little?

many thanks

It doesnt need to be served at room temp I have never heard of cats having tummy upsets from cold food, mine certainly never have. Some cats certainly do seem to prefer it warmer, but it won't hurt to serve it from the fridge.

I wouldnt use a microwave. Just get it out for a little bit before serving or put it straight out.

You may find she quickly starts to eat a lot more, mine could easily go through a tetrapack a day of bozita, and currently its flavour of the month and theyre eating a lot of it.

Re: Refrigeration Of Wet Food?

Is she eating 200g because that's what you give her, or because that's all she will eat?

Because a kitten can quite happily consume a full tray and more Kittens should be free fed as much as they can eat. You only know you're feeding them enough if they start to leave a little bit. Feeding them between 4-8 small meals a day is the best way to go.

I'm just assuming your kitten is a she, but you don't actually say

Re: Refrigeration Of Wet Food?

My apologies, my kitten is a he called Oscar, only feeding him 200g due to vets advice because of a ongoing tummy problem, and trying to get to the bottom of it, excuse the pun!

Even if he was eating one who 370g tray of Bozita per day, once opened do most people put in the fridge or just store in a cool place. I'm not sure where I saw about not feeding food straight from the fridge, think it was from a kitten book I have.

Re: Refrigeration Of Wet Food?

I would always refrigerate between meals, and personally I add boiled water and mash it all up together so food is warmed and moisture content is upped. Some cats are unbothered by food being cold, but I think for a kitten it could be a bit much and maybe unsettle the tummy.
If you do microwave, be sure to stir thoroughly to avoid hot spots in the food.

Re: Refrigeration Of Wet Food?

I add warm water to any food taken out of the fridge too. My cats actually prefer it like that. I even add the warm water when the tin is new and at room temp.

I've never microwaved my cat food - I wouldn't really be inclined to either if I'm being honest.....

Sorry to take thread off track, but couldn't help but notice your cat second from the end bares an uncanny resemblence to Hitler (but a cute version). x
