Re: Blood results for Casper.
Hi Jen,
How have you and Oscar been? Firstly, I'm glad to see his T4 is well within normal range, shows no ectopic tissue. Going on the USG and not the blood results-this is why it's very useful to have both tests run-I can see what the vet means. A USG of <140 can point to a problem. However, owing to the Creatinine being well with normal limits, this may be a one-off and in your position I would have another urinalysis in a few weeks or so. I'd ignore the high Urea as this could well be due to dehydration or a high protein diet. Otherwise liver readings are fine. Is he still on Lactulose as this can lead to elevated calcium levels. It's important not the permit calcium levels to get too high. The high globulin could point of some inflammation present. I'd imagine the high CK is owing to the stress of the blood draw. Hope this helps! |

Re: Blood results for Casper.
Hello, I was very pleased with the t4 result.
When Casper had blood test back in March the Urea was high ( just below what it is now ) No Lactulose since March /April time Vets seem to think we start trying to get him on Hills K/d, he doesnt like it.. I just don't want to make things worse by carrying on feeding him his normal food when I should be trying to change things. Thank you again for all your help with Casper. Jen x

Re: Blood results for Casper.
High Urea on it's own with a cat fed a high protein diet shouldn't be a problem-it's the Creatinine that's more the marker with CRF. Was urine sample run in March? With an 18-year-old there's bound to be some deterioration ( though current renal reading are good ) and the USG on this occasion could be flagging this up. Good to spot things early.
What food is he currently on then? If he's refusing Hills then there are others to choose from on Tanya's site. You could also discuss using phosphorous binders with the vet with his normal food. Phosphorous can actually make CRF progress faster so important to limit this. I'd also ask vet about high normal calcium level as this might also be the cause of the lower USG. Re: Blood results for Casper.
Sorry for the delay in replying, No Urine was ran in March as they were more worried about the thyroid I think, nothing much was said about it other than a few other 'things' were a little bit high..
He is fed a bit of a mixture, We vary between Grau, Animonda ( not much as not very keen ), Felix and Whiskas. He has got quite fussy in his old age and really prefers the Whiskas and felix, I do worry about his weight, he is not thin still 4kg I don't really want him any lighter. I'm really not sure what to do. I think I should try and find a food that is better than what he eats now and stick with it, not so many options.. !

Re: Blood results for Casper.
Did they do a blood pressure reading (before taking the blood!)
This is a fantastic site and IMO is the staging which all vets should work to Iris - IRIS (International Renal Interest Society) |
