Pets at Home nutrition advice and free sample

Hi all, don't know if it's common knowledge but Pets at Home offer a free session with a trained advisor to help you find a food that fits your cat's (or dog's needs..... it comes with a free bag of food. admittedly this is dry food only and I know the arguements about wet vs dry etc but my big boy cat will only eat dry so it works for me!

Re: Pets at Home nutrition advice and free sample

We had a consultation for Ally with a really nice girl and were given a decent size (not trial size) bag of food which is great - no cereal, high meat/protein content etc, she really listened to what I was after and helped me to choose something I was happy with - but then i was only after dry food for Al. we then had a consultation for little Noodle who only really eats wet food. A different guy did this consultation and we were told that it was bad for her teeth not to have dry etc etc....i didn't argue with him but i may very well write to P@H to question their training or whatever: he was talking the talk of someone who believes what he's been told, it's not his fault....However, he didn't discuss the pros of wet food along with the cons, or likewise the cons of dry food
we were given a trial sized bag of applaws for her which is obv good quality and we'll try both of them on it when we leave dry down. What I'm trying to say is that

It's a good service if you're after dry food

and i think they're meant to give you the smallest size they can - i was lucky that thay only did big bags of the one for Ally!!

I think the big bag was Pets at Home's own Advanced Nutrition, it's it the cupboard sorry i can't remember?! we could have had the Royal Canin but we already use that so we did a comparison between a few different types. the second one was Applaws. they don't have to give you their own brand, it was very 'non brand specific' and I didn't feel like I was being forced either way!! And it was free lol

I'm relieved to hear it's not brand specific but why then dried food specific? A free bag of food is not to be sniffed at if it's what you want. I can't help but think this is marketing promotion among agreed manufacturers though. It would be very interesting to get a reaction from one of these advisers to a product P@H don't sell.

Re: Pets at Home nutrition advice and free sample

I took the two white cats to PAH companion care for their vaccines and was given a bag of Hills at the initial appointment. Today we had the second jab and vet asked me what I was feeding Monty, I was half way through saying raw when my brain kicked in and I managed to say wet instead. So.....I got the dental argument through which I smiled politely.

Re: Pets at Home nutrition advice and free sample

Well I'm 20 miles from my nearest branch and I don't use them for anything. If I'm passing at some point I'll definitely give it a go but someone will have to give me some examples of manufactured food they don't stock. Somehow I don't think I stand a chance of sensible discussion over wild rabbit and raw chicken

Re: Pets at Home nutrition advice and free sample

I would want to know what qualifications the person had, and what pressure there was to promote the brand that PAH wants sold, personally.
It can`t be impartial can it?
