Question kitten with hairballs

i'm totally lost in the hairball department, our older cat has never had one in 4 years, but rumbles (5 month) has brought up his third one in as many weeks! I can't understand why they would be so different, is it a dietry/genetic/lifestyle problem. What can i do to help him? the poor thing looks so poorly for the whole day before producing them Is there something i could feed him to help? i was wondering if it had anything to do with him having a sensitive stomach, like maybe he can't digest it properly.
For extra info they are both short hair tabbies, i brush them 2-3 times a week & kitten gets a good licking by older cat a couple of times a day! Also they are raw feed so don't want to feed them the 'special biscuit' that the lady at thr pet shop tried to sell me

Re: kitten with hairballs

Have you considered growing some kitty grass to see whether that will help him?

What raw are you feeding hun? Is it quite fatty?

Re: kitten with hairballs

Hi there,

You could try a malt flavoured gel, which should be available at any pet store. It is made specifically for hairballs, and looks just like a tube of toothpaste. I usually just put a bit on my finger and my cat will happily lap it up.

I have also read that a spoonful of plain canned pumpkin can be fed directly to cats or can be mixed with their current food. This helps to regulate their digestive system, and should help to stop the hairballs.

I hope this is of some help, and I look forward to reading any other suggestions that someone may have.
