Mesenteric ganglion in 5month old kitten :(

They opened up Jango surgically this afternoon and it's not a foreign body or intessecuption but a huge mesenteric ganglion the vet had never seen anything like it.

From my knowledge as a human doctor I'm worried about either lymphoma or a nerve tumour just last week he has absolutely 100% fine and then 3 days ago he stopped eating completely and was vomiting...

Anyone got any advice?? I'm desperate

So sorry about Jango - I hope he can get better - as a non doctor human I haven't a clue what most of those things are but I hope he will get well.

So sorry Kittehnom, no help from me either but I do hope that Jango gets well and that it sounds a lot more horrible than it is. I've never heard of so.... from me too.

Sending you both big (((((HUGS))))) as they are just as important right now.

Re: Mesenteric ganglion in 5month old kitten :(

update:

They think it was a huge lymph node reacting to whatever was going on in his colon. His colon itself was apparently very enlarged and looked inflamed. They have taken biopsies from the bowel and the lymph node and sent them for diagnosis

the options are:

1. Congential problem meaning that the bowel wasn't being innervated properly meaning the bowel contents become stagnant and caused inflammation and constipation

2. Colitis

3. Infection which has just really badly affected the large bowel

They want to also do a FIV/Leukemia screen (no idea where he would have got it from, he's an indoor cat and has had no contact with other cats and the breeder is fully legit and trustworthy and all her cats and the other kittens are fine).

They have said I may be looking at lifelong medical treatment and dietary modification, which is fine. But if that doesn't work then possibly a colectomy... I would have to seriously look into this before giving it the go ahead though...

Money is NO issue, he is insured to the eyeballs, top level of care and everything.

Worried sick and just want him home. They are keeping him in for at least tonight, probably tomorrow too.

He's only a baby...

x

Oh dear, it's just a horrible feeling waiting for a diagnosis and feeling utterly useless, when do they think they biopsy results will be back.

Re: Mesenteric ganglion in 5month old kitten :(

Biopsies take about 3 days, the FNA (fine needle aspiration) from the Lymph node should be back tomorrow as it only takes someone looking at it under a microscope.

Praying its 'just' an infection.

I want my baby home... first night alone in the flat tonight. All of his toys are everywhere reminding me he isn't here with me

Not long then but it will still feel like a life time , yes it's horrible hoping for it to only be an infection but I hope it is and that he will be home and bouncing around again soon.
