I noticed in one of the ads that they say their kittens are GSD IV free and having read up about it have learnt it is a genetic and terminal condition in this breed. What I am unsure about is would I be taking a major risk if I got kittens that haven't been tested as there is only one breeder offering tested kittens and they are £400 each which is too much for my budget.

Does anyone have any information they could share about this please?

Also are there any considerations in whether the kittens should be of the same sex or not. I would definately choose siblings but apart from that, and I would get them neutured, I wonder if it makes any difference whatsoever.

many thanks

Sometimes we have to pay a certain price in order to be more assured about the health and general condition of the kitten.
Personally, we are getting a Ragdoll kitten in the end of the month, it will be 500 euros, super expensive yes, but at least we will sleep better at night. Specially being this a second cat, we wanted to make sure we get a healthy/proper taken care kitten to live with our resident cat and us.

If I were you and if I really wanted a Norwegian Forest cat, I would rather buy one kitty instead of two or save for awhile to afford one.

By the way, that link is evil!

Re: Norweigan Forest Kittens - GSD IV risk

I agree with the others that £400 is the going rate for pedigrees. Ours were £500 each and I have seen other pedigree lines going for £550 and upwards. I have never come across any cheaper pedigree kittens that were GCCF-registered and clearly "genuine" pedigrees.

Obviously that link posted by Dante is an exception due to exceptional circumstances. OMG how gorgeous are they???? I want that one... and that one... and that one there... and that one there too. In fact I think I'll have them all!

Re: Norweigan Forest Kittens - GSD IV risk

Please be careful with "cheaper" kittens.

Our kitten, Dynamo, was released to early and unvaccinated from a breeder. (First litter)

He is perfectly healthy (thankfully) but I think this was more luck than judgement.

Also, on his paperwork, it says that if he fathered a litter, they can't be registered.

This isn't a problem because we never wanted a breeding cat.

Weegies are really loving and really enjoy company. Good choice. But I am biased because Hugo (rainbow bridge) was a weegie.

Good luck

Re: Norweigan Forest Kittens - GSD IV risk

I've got four gorgeous wegies. Kalle, Kyrre, Kaisa and Karlo. The first two are brothers. The second two are sister and brother. All adorable . The first two we paid £400 each. Then we went to see Kaisa last year only originally intending to get her. However we sort of fell for Karlo as well. His breeder then offered us him for a reduced rate. {He was the last in the litter and it was also before Christmas as well}. We accepted. Although he has had health issues [nothing though that the breeder would of known about though], it was the best thing we could of done as he is such a cuddlebug.

They are very different in personality. Kalle is a gentle quiet giant, who loves to give everyone a good wash. Kyrre is a chatty mischevious monkey. Kaisa is quite reserved a very much a lady. Karlo just loves everyone and needs lots of love.

They are a joy to be slaves to!

If you do get a kitten photos are obligatory of course!
