How much do you spend a month on food?

Is buying the higher quality food that much more expensive than 'junk' food? The kittens are on Morrisons wet pouches and go cat kitten biscuits. I'm looking to change them onto something better for them.

How much on average do you spend a month on food for your kitties? Well more, how much do you spend that they actually eat as I know most of you buy in bulk from zooplus etc. So, basically what is the average cost of the food your cats eat a month? I know buying in bulk is cheaper but wondered how much this works out as a month.

Just a thought. Would you consider rephrasing your question: If you had X amount of money to spend on cat food a month, what would you buy and where from?

I don't really have X amount of money to spend - I'm just wondering how much it works out on average a month for everyone else that feed things like animonda carny, etc.

Since this is not what the OP wants I suggest you make a new thread for people to comment on and to keep this one on topic But kittens are tricky as they can eat as much as they want of certain foods...

Re: How much do you spend a month on food?

If you feed 2 cats 2 pouches a day.. you need 120 pouches a month.

Whiskas : £7 for a box of 24 pouches. £35 for 120 pouches.
Macs 2.3 eurosfor for 800g can. 34.5 euros for 15 cans + 10.5 shipping = 45 euros or £40.

Not much difference in price, big difference in quality It would be even closer when buying more than 1 months supply at a time due to shipping.

Re: How much do you spend a month on food?

I'm now spending between £50 - £60 a month to feed three cats on a mixture of Smilla, Animonda Carny & Bozita.

I had hoped to pop in some Applaws dry or Orijen, in an attempt to try and keep costs down, but these appear to be giving dodgy bottoms so am keeping the feeding of these to a minimum.

But surely you cannot just go on price but also need to take the feeding recommendation into consideration. For example, Whiskas (rightly or wrongly) would recommend that an average sized cat should eat between 3 -4 pouches a day; making this 300 - 400g of food a day. Macs, on the other hand, would say 200g per cat per day.

Re: How much do you spend a month on food?

Which supplier is that for Macs please? I'm thinking of ordering from Germany, to supplement the stuff I buy from Zooplus, but a bit nervous about it. Wish Zooplus would do Macs etc, then life would be simple.

OP, I reckon I spend round abut £55 - £60 per month (3 cats), but that's a very loose estimate, it's difficult to say because I order when I run out, rather than monthly and I do different orders each time. Sometimes it runs to 6 weeks, it depends on what I ordered the previous time. I mix the more expensive ones, eg Grau with cheaper ones, Bozita to try and keep the cost down a bit. As time has gone on (I've been feeding this way since about February) and I'm confident that they like it and it won't be wasted, I've tended to do bigger and bigger orders. I must say though, that I'm sure their condition has improved since I changed from supermarket food (mostly Hi-Life), their coats are beautiful at the moment, although that might be the summer I suppose.

What I would suggest, if you are thinking of ordering from Zooplus, is you do a comparison. Their website shows the price of each food per kg alongside the price per tin. You can easily compare the difference gram for gram between what you feed now and other foods.
