Applaws and Litter tray antics!!

I brought a couple of puches of Applaws yesterday for a tester to see if they would eat it, which they did every last bit

However this morning good solid pooh but.......... WOW THE SMELL HAD TEARS RUNNING DOWN MY FACE

Now i was a community care worker for 9 years but this was something else,
because of the dog the tray is in the front room. I have a very laid back husband but this may test his limits

Is this normal? will it be less pongy when they are used to it?

Thanks all

i'm now off to break my own nose!!

Re: Applaws and Litter tray antics!!

You know that Applaws wet food is complementary food, don't you? Which means that it is only an occasional treat food as it doesn't contain all the nutrients cats, and growing kittens in particular, need.

Re the smell. You probably introduced that food too quickly. Did you gradually mix it in with their old food in ever increasing proportions or did you just put the whole pouch down on a plate? The smell might lessen with time.

However, instead of introducing complementary food into their diet, you might want to consider using a good quality wet food instead.

Re: Applaws and Litter tray antics!!

Hi

No I didnt mix it should of done really but no diarrhoea yet!! the woman i got them from said "they just eat a bit of what we have" "or a bit of whiskers" so i think they must have iron stomaches so far they have been ok.

I didnt know it was complimentary right so that means i need someting complete? I was looking at forthglade and Berties are these any better?

I have learnt so much on here since i got them i think i just wanted them off the rubbish and on to something better shall take my time with the next change.

Thanks
Karen
ps hubby got up just after the smell had dissolved!! that would of been an interesting conversation

Re: Applaws and Litter tray antics!!

I was looking at Forthglade yesterday and noticed they now class all of their food as complementary, even the chicken. Not heard of Berties, sorry!

I was blessed with iron stomach boys, but it seems my girls are a bit more delicate!

Re: Applaws and Litter tray antics!!

Forthglade didn't do pouches - they do trays of stocky-looking pates. They used to do a complete (or so they claimed) food for cats but it looks as though that this has been discontinued. The food that remains is complementary as Dante has pointed out.

I contacted Forthglade a while ago to find out what was going on and if they still do the food for cats what it contains in terms of minerals and vitamins but not a peep. So, personally, I would stay clear of any company that is not willing to engage with a consumer and that is not willing to openly declare what the food contains.

Re Nature's Harvest: A-Z of wet food for cats. Given the dodgy calcium/phosphorus ratio and given that in terms their analysis not all adds up, I would give this food a wide berth.

Zooplus has quite a few foods that are of good quality. Is there any reason why you were looking at Forthglade and Nature's Harvest (who incidentally also have the weirdest textures of the cat food world)? If you are looking for local, i.e. UK, food then check out Lily's Kitchen, Nature's Menu or Denes.
