it continues...

the problems continue...

took Jango to the vet on Friday with vomiting issues - vet said he looked fine and it was probably just a one off or a hair-ball etc. Jango was eating and drinking again by evening with no problems and so I decided to go to Glasgow and leave him in the care of my very responsible brother. He was absolutely fine over the weekend, eating loads and drinking and playing with his toys and generally being a monstrous kitten-sort.

Last night when we got in he was fine too, very cuddly and affectionate and he slept in my arms (literally) all night. However, he woke up at 5am and was sick once on the bedroom floor, but it was only fluid. I figured it was probably a hair ball and cleaned it up and took Jango back to bed where he slept through until morning.

Throughout today he has slept in my lap and my arms most of the day and hasn't eaten a single thing. He has been drinking fine though and has eaten some plain chicken pieces that I managed to persuade him to eat.

In total though he has vomiting 4 lots of fluid, some with bits of food in. It looks yellowish in colour, no odour. Jango announces his vomit by licking his lips before and generally giving the impression that he feels nauseous.

I'm really worried Could this be a hairball issue? I groom him everyday (He's a Birman, so semi-longhaired) and have now started giving him malt-paste as well since Friday.

If he hasn't eaten by tomorrow I am going to take him to the vet after work or get my brother to take him as he is visiting again.

My poor boo

Oh dear! A lot of kitties around with vomiting issues! Poor Jango!

Yes, lip licking is a sign of nausea but the question is what is making feel like this!

When was the last time he produced a hairball? With the intervening time when he was eating well and now this, yes it sounds as if it could be due to this, though hard to say.

Is he eating now?

Re: it continues...

well, the only time he has produced a "solid" definite "text book" hairball was end of July, cause I though it was a poo at first.

other one has sort of been hair balls mixed in with vomit (I can tell cause I pulled them apart and recognised the texture) and the last one was on Friday with the big vomit in the morning

He had eaten between Friday and now, its just today he hasn't eaten. Before the hairball on Friday we has been dry wretching a few days before. And I haven't changed foods. These are all foods he had eaten before and loved with no problems Might take him back to Grau grain-free. He didn't like it as much, but at least it was safe on the vomiting front.

he is being super soppy still. I just picked him up and he has snuggled straight into my lap. That might be because I have been away for a few days though and he has missed me (first time I have ever left him)

Re: it continues...

One of mine is like that in that he produces large whole ones usually preceded by the symptoms you describe including not eating much on the day!

Let's hope he produces one soon then!

Re: it continues...

It's something in the air I tell you!

In all seriousness, did the vet check his glands? I don't know if you've seen any of my threads over the last week or so, but your post and symptoms sound very similar to that of my gangs. I also thought it was a hairball issue, the cats were 'gagging' and constantly licking lips, but producing nothing but clear piles of liquid - occasionally with hair in.

We took the boys initially to the vets on Friday, as they weren't eating much either - and she diagnosed them with inflamed glands (upper respiratory infection) and therefore the gagging/licking was due to the discomfort in their throat area.

Both the girls have since had gooey eyes, so we took them both in yesterday and the vet found their glands inflamed aswell, so in short all of my lot have the same infection and are now all on antibiotics. This evening the eating has improved somewhat and the gagging/licking has most definitely stopped.

I've since found out that the breeder our NFC came from, has a new stud boy who arrived a few weeks before we collected her, currently suffering the same (which is likely to be how we caught it)

Could be worth a look at

Re: it continues...

Thanks for the advice and suggestions!

We've had an unsettled evening two more fluid vomits, one looked a bit foamy. Interestingly one seemed to be set off by the smell of food alone as I tried to tempt him with some tuna (I was making my lunch for tomorrow) and that started the lip licking and then vomiting

@Dante if glands = Lymphnodes, yeah, the vet felt all the Lymphnodes around the neck and said there was nothing there to feel. I am thinking I will make an appointment for tomorrow afternoon after work though unless he starts eating or produces a nice hairball for me

He is cuddling on the sofa this evening and I will keep him shut in my room with me tonight so I can hear if he gets up to go and vomit.

Re: it continues...

another mixed night a vomit before bedtime but then he slept the entire night in my arms.

this morning however he vomited straight after waking up and then again after having some water he's had some more water since and seems okay now. Am taking him to the vets after work or will get my brother to take him if he's here earlier.

my poor baby

he was still playing this morning at least

Re: it continues...

I hope you get some answers it's strange, the vomiting at the sight of food even sounds like my lot, they wanted to eat but would smell the food and start gagging. I think glands and lymphnodes are the same thing though

Keep your chin up, I know how frustrating it is when you just can't work out what's wrong

Re: it continues...

been to the vet poor Jango has got something "palpable" in his stomach and the vet thinks its either a foreign body (including possibly a hair ball) or faecal matter. He's going in tomorrow for an Xray and possibly bloods and to be observed

If its in his stomach, it will be an endoscopy to fix it, if its in the small intestine, he'll need surgery, if its in his large intestine it will be a watch and wait +/- laxatives
