Re: 20 year old cat problem eating & drinking - part of tongue missing

Glad to hear she's doing so well! Keep a note of the frequency and duration of the seizures, and get her BP checked when you can.

Keep us updated!

Re: 20 year old cat problem eating & drinking - part of tongue missing

I'm sorry to say that Pepsi went downhill again last night after her initial improvement following antibiotic and painkiller injections. She couldn't seem to use her tongue properly so wasn't getting food or drink into her mouth despite trying so hard. It was heartbreaking to watch her. I had to give her water with a syringe until I could get her in at the vets again, as I didn't want her getting dehydrated, and I was concerned that she was then also becoming constipated. The vet said it could be a neurological problem preventing her from being able to use her tongue, or a blockage further back in her throat or chest, or tumours on her brain. Taking into account her age, her blindness, her recent fits, and she had a large fluid filled cyst on one side of her neck and another one growing on the other side, plus her confusion and frustration at not being able to use her tongue to eat or drink, I decided that her quality of life had drastically reduced and it was time to let her go. It's one of the hardest decisions I've ever had to make, and I'd been hoping to avoid having to do it, but I couldn't bear to see her struggling and not even have the enjoyment of food anymore - one of her last remaining pleasures. I'm heartbroken to be without my little friend after 20 years, but I'm relieved that she won't have to suffer any further problems and she went quickly and peacefully. RIP Pepsi my little precious x
Thanks again to all for your advice and caring.

So sorry to hear this pepsi96, it'll probably be hard for you to grasp atm, but you did the best thing for her. They can't make *that* decision for themselves or tell us when they've had enough, they depend on us to know. It's a horrible situation, but in the end it's the ultimate kindness we can show them.

RIP Pepsi.

I am so sorry for your loss of Pepsi.
It is very heart breaking when they leave us.
You did the kindest thing and it was the right time for her to go to the Bridge.

I hope happy memories of her will replace the pain of loss you have right now.
It's one of the only down sides to owning pets but i myself will never be without them.

Take care x

Thanks so much to everyone for your kind words and thoughts, I really appreciate them. It's helping me come to terms with losing Pepsi, and also in accepting that it was the right and kindest thing to do. Thanks and best wishes to you all x

Re: 20 year old cat problem eating & drinking - part of tongue missing

I knew I'd miss her but I feel like I've lost my right arm, she was one of the family, my little friend, and the house just doesn't feel right without her. It's going to take a while to get used to this. I'm going to dig out some photos and put them in frames so I can still see her around the house. Night night my little Pepsi x
