Nutrition advice please :)

Hi i have two 4month old kittens, and have recently switched from whiskers kitten food, because i noticed that it was 4% meat . To one called purely which is a min of 45% along with the dry purely complete kitten food. They are having 2 pouches each, spread over 4 meals aday, with a handful of biscuits each time. Is this ok for this age group?

Also sometimes, maybe once a week they will only eat a pouch each with biscuits a day, and i worry they are not getting enough. I wonder sometimes when the weather is hot if they may eat less?.

advice please .

Re: Nutrition advice please :)

Hi

I'm a newbie to kittens well not had one for 10 years and back then just fed them whatever was on offer at supermarket

I am now learning much more about them kids grown up and more money and time

My 2 are 12 weeks old and they varie each day is different i feed 4 times a day 1/2 pouch each plus few biccies. Some days they eat it all most days they only eat half of there 1/2 pouch each.

They have both grown alot in the week and half i have had them. They run round non stop when awake and litter habbits are not runny.

They started on whiskers as this was what they were weaned on they today had their first pouch of applaws at lunch they have eaten all of that and havent stopped messing about since!!

I defo notice a differance when the weather is warmer its cool today and they seem a lot happier (or is it the applaws)

Hey hun. Are they begging for more food? Are they growing and putting on as much weight as they should on a weekly basis? Then you are probably feeding them enough, particularly if they also get a handful of dry food each at each meal.

Have you considered upping the amount of wet food you feed (say feed 3 or 4 pouches) and cutting out or reducing the amount of dry food you feed?

PS: Just because Whiskas and co say that the pouch contains a min of 4% doesn't mean that it only contains 4% meat overall. They are by law required to state the minimum percentage of the flavour meat in the food (so if you buy chicken in jelly then it needs to contain at least 4% chicken), which needs to be 4%. However, the food will contain either more of the flavour meat or will contain other meats. Some manufacturers declare how much meat their food overall contains, others don't.

Re: Nutrition advice please :)

hey no they are not begging for more food, they never actually seem bothered about food, they are always running around like crazy kittens, and are putting weight on just fine. I guess i have nothing to worry about, but just seems odd on days they eat very little.

Is dry food bad?. My mum has had cats for the last 20 years.. and she has always fed dry and wet, i guess thats why i have just done the same.

Wet is much better so if you can move to a mostly wet (or all wet) diet its much healthier. If you read this it will shed some light on the issue
