Has anyone had a cat over 20 years?

Hi,
Iīve been reading about cats and I see that they are given a life span of 14-20 years. I know they donīt live forever(we donīt either) but it would be nice to know that they can do better than 20 years. Does anyone have a healthy senior more than that age?

Now now of course since she died some years back, but my family had one that lived to be nearly 25! She died in her sleep. Remarkably for her age her kidneys were in very good shape.

A neighbour had a rescue cat who died at 23. Apparently in her younger years had lots of litters of kittens!

They do sometimes live over 20 though it is unusual, I have 2 or 3 I see regularly who are 20+ all in suprisingly good health (touch wood)

My mum's cat is almost 21 and there's not a thing wrong with her (touch wood) Her other cat is 13 and also never had a thing wrong with her! She must be putting something in their dinner!

My childhood cat was nearly 26 when she finally left us !!!!!! Bless her she never had any visits to the vets throughout her entire life, never any problems, no vaccinations, nothing! Although with hindsight she didn't have much of a life towards the end, but she finally passed away peacefully in her sleep at the ripe old age of just under 26, loved her xxxx

Re: Has anyone had a cat over 20 years?

My previous kitty, Molly, was 21-ish.

She was a rescue, that I took on when she was about 3-5 years old. Never really knew how old she was, it was a best guess.

She was poorly, but still active and happy, for the last 3-4 years of her life, with a tumour on her thyroid (quite a frequent occurance with older cats) which we medicated her for until she had had enough.

So, even with a couple of issues, they can still make it over 20 years.

Re: Has anyone had a cat over 20 years?

A friend of mine has an old ginger farm cat that's 19 now. He jokes that she's past her sell-by date! Old Ginge ambles about the place, matted fur (that no one's allowed to brush), wobbly legs, miaowing at everyone, scaring the dogs, but generally living the life of riley.

She's a tenacious little demon who looks like she'll keep going for a while yet, even if it's out of pure bloody mindedness!
