Kitten diarrhoea, sneezing and no appetite. Advice needed!!

Hi everyone

I'm new to the forum and was hoping someone might have been in a similar situation. I have two 17 week old black long haired kittens. One boy and one girl named Louis and Lola. When I collected them from the rescue centre the little boy was sneezing but I was told I shouldn't be concerned unless he stops eating. Well he has now stopped eating and both my kittens now have diarrhoea. They are booked in for the emergency vet first thing tomorrow but is there anything anyone can suggest I do to help them? Louis is very lethargic and they both cry a lot and it breaks my heart to think they're in pain! I have tried getting them to eat plain boiled chicken and plain fish but they won't eat anything at all yet both howl as though they're hungry. Has anyone been in a similar situation that could offer advice?

How long have you had them and how long has your kitten been refusing food and is it drinking. What about the other one ,apart from the diarrhea is it well.Kittens can go down hill very quickly,I would phone your vet now for advice with a view to taking them in today. All vets have an Out of Hours contact and emergency service,if you phone the normal number you will be given an emergency contact number.Good luck I hope it is nothing to serious.

I would not wait either, not with kittens. If it were me, I would be in the car now and on my way to an emergency vet.

I've had them for a week today and they were eating ok (not brilliantly) up until yesterday. They ate a small amount yesterday but have pretty much refused all food today. I phoned the emergency out of hours number (which was a mobile number)and all I got was a voicemail. I've left a message and phoned another vet who told me that along as they were both drinking, which they are, then they'll be ok until tomorrow. Should I trust this advice? Lola the little girl isn't eating and has diarrhoea but is still playing whereas Louis isn't eating, has diarrhoea, is sneezing and is lethargic. I'm quite concerned but the vet didn't seem to be?

If it were me I would phone and see a third vet. A lethargic kitten and another one that isn't eating either is not something that is taken lightly.

Yes I think you're right. I'm off to find another number for different vet. Does anyone else think it sounds like they have flu?

I think we should leave the diagnosing to the vet you are hopefully talking to right now and are hopefully seeing shortly. Let us know how you got on hun. All the best.

Re: Kitten diarrhoea, sneezing and no appetite. Advice needed!!

You can't mess around with kittens when they start getting lethargic and don't eat. 24 ... even 12 hours can make all the different between life and death with certain infections. Please keep calling around until you can find a vet who will see them now.

Good luck, and keep us posted please ... a lot of us worry about little ones when things like this happen
