Large dark "perfect" circle on cats ear... what is it?!

My 18 month old cat has developed an almost black "perfect" circle on his ear. It appeared approximately 8-6 months ago and has continued to grow. Its placed perfectly within the V shape of his ear a good few mm lower than the tip. The circle is flat, can not be felt, but can be seen both sides of his ear.

I have had some vet advice but they hadnt seen it before and would have to run tests which I'm guessing will be expensive. I am hoping someone on this site might have experienced the same thing or have heard of it.

It can't be a birth mark as he wasnt born with it. It cant just be his markings as he is white and light grey all over so the circle really stands out. He has always been up to date with all vaccs and treatments such as worms and fleas.

Coco: Bengal, Snow spotted, Male, DOB: 18/02/2010, indoor cat, neutered.

If you can help please reply, thank you!!

Picture of the ear... Spot is darker normally but had to have the window behind so it would show up properly on the picture.

(sorry not the best quality!)

Re: Large dark "perfect" circle on cats ear... what is it?!

As Spid said, we aren't vets and personally, I would get the little mite to the vet for some tests asap. In particular, I would be very keen to rule out skin cancer, which unfortunately is quite a common occurrence in white(ish) cats, particularly those with white ears. Also, the fact that it is growing would concern me.

All the best.

My cat has a similar mark in his ear - not round, but a dark fleck - I call it his tattoo. I've not noticed it growing, but am sure it wasn't there when he was young. He's a 13-year-old tabby and did grow up in Australia, so it could be from the sun.. but it doesn't appear to cause him any problems. It isn't raised at all, though - it just looks like like a cat version of a large freckle. I'm no expert but just wanted to let you know that from the photo it looks the same as the mark in my cat's ear, which he has definitely had for 7+ years.
