Re: Worried sick about Monty :-(
The vet took Monty's temperature (in his bottom... he didn't like that!
) and said he does have a bit of a fever. He's given him an antibiotic injection and we've got to take him back tomorrow. He said not to feed him until bedtime tonight and only to give him some plain chicken again.

Re: Worried sick about Monty :-(
Monty is now eating very small amounts of food, but not much. No more vomiting though, which is good, and his temperature was back to normal this morning at his check-up. We've been given some antibiotic tablets which we're meant to wrap in ham or something but I can't see him being that interested in eating ham on its own (or any food) let alone with a tablet wrapped inside!
However now Dinah is off her food. She's also been seen at the vets and although her temperature was normal, the vet gave her an antibiotic injection too, and also a painkiller in case she's in pain after her spay.My poor babies. It seems strange not to see them excited over food. They just take one look at it and walk off. ![]() Back to the vets tomorrow... again! So far we've spent more on follow-up consultation fees and medication than we spent on the actual neutering. ![]()

Re: Worried sick about Monty :-(
I feel for you Bonnie, mine are currently the same, all 4 on antibiotics and looking at me like I couldn't have placed a worse food down in front of them when it's feeding time - I think it's made me more cat food obsessed if even possible!
We also had to buy a pill popper yesterday at the vets, because like yourselves, we can't get them to eat the food with the tablet in. Maybe worth a try? Or I tricked Schrodinger into thinking they were treats earlier and he ate them straight out of the palm of my hand! ![]() Sending lots of positive vibes your way - our poorly fur families WILL be better soon!! xx

Re: Worried sick about Monty :-(
Oh, poor babies. Hope they both get better soon.
I am also sitting here worrying about my boys, even though there is nothing wrong with either of them. (possibly licked some lily pollen!) What a Bank holiday! |

I hope they will both be back to normal very soon. I also have 2 little babies (they seem more like babies than kittens!) and worry about the slightest thing. I am trying to make my mind up whether or not to go ahead with pet insurance once the 4 week cover which they came with runs out. Do you have pet insurance for Monty & Dinah? I didn't have pi with my previous cat - if anything was wrong with her we just went to the vet and paid and that was it. As she got older she seemed to be so healthy that the only vet visits required were when she was a kitten, and I can't remember the cost of anything - when you love them you just pay it don't you? I am totally out of touch with how much a trip to the vets costs these days. If you don't mind me asking how much is a visit to the vets where they prescribe antibiotics. I know neutering is not covered under pet ins. Just out of interest how much does this cost? |

Re: Worried sick about Monty :-(
Thanks guys. It's just so hard seeing my babies, who normally have such healthy appetites, disinterested in their favourite foods.
I've just offered them some of their favourite cooked chicken and you would've thought it was poisoned, the way they turned their noses up! However we did manage to get them to eat a few pieces of cooked ham. Didn't manage to get Monty's tablet to stay in the ham though, so had to hollow out a little biscuit treat and put it in there, which worked. ![]() Dante - I had seen you had sickly babies too, and I'm so sorry. It's do disheartening, isn't it? It's awful not being able to talk to them and say "What do you fancy eating?" or "How do you feel?" I so wish I could communicate with my two! The fact that cats are also good at masking pain and discomfort upsets me, as I hate to think of them suffering in any way. Poor babies. I really hope your four make an improvement soon too. I didn't realise it was all four of them. And I thought it was bad with two!Lumboo - I really hope the lily pollen hasn't done any damage with your boy(s). I saw your thread and it sounds to me like they're not going to have any ill effects from it but I will keep my fingers crossed all the same. Scarlett - At my vets, male castration costs £32.96 and female spay costs £56.51. We do have pet insurance but I think it only covers treatment and medication, whereas it's the consultation fees which really add up! It's £28 per cat to be seen by the vet, and today we got charged 2 x consultation fees (which I thought was a little unfair ) as I asked the vet to look at both kittens. We've spent over £100 in follow-up care in 24 hours... and there'll be another £30+ to spend tomorrow when we take Dinah back. But you're right, we just pay it as they're our babies! I wouldn't NOT take them to the vets, but it does surprise me sometimes how quickly the fees can mount up.
