Feeding wet food 3 times a day

Hello all,

Merlin has a bit of stomach problems these days. I have been told that it is because of feeding too much wet food (I give him a small tin in each feed). Does anyone else feed wet 3 times a day and their cat has ok stools?

I do and they are fine, who has told you that the wet food is a problem ? If it is a new thing and nothing has changed like food or living conditions then I would be seeking advice from a vet.

Re: Feeding wet food 3 times a day

Yes, we only feed wet or raw food (well Millie sometimes gets a few crackers to play with) and they don't have dicky tums because of it. It is a complete myth that cats get runny bums because they get fed wet food. Their natural diet is high in moisture, so their metabolism is well suited to dealing with the moisture content in wet food.

More likely that you did the food changes too quickly or that the food doesn't agree (perhaps because you swapped them too quickly) or maybe he has a bug.

Thanks, I thought as much. He has been eating the food for sometime now, anyway he is getting better. I just feel good about giving him wet 3 times a day.

Re: Feeding wet food 3 times a day

Good to know. Here in Spain veryone gives dry. Even my vet frowned on when I was giving him wet (a tin a day), they don´t know I increased it. When I talk to friends about feeding their cats all wet, some think I´m crazy. I even have a friend who has an obesse cat with renal problems and he feeds one spoon in the morning and one in the evening(I got tired of explaining tha dry food in this case is even more dangerous). So I´m really glad for all your support. Someone even told me she found my search for good cat food and the money I´m spending ridiculous (when I tried USA food). So in trying to give him better quality food, I´m alone and hearing a lot of comments.

Don't forget that loads of people over here also feed only dry and that many would shake their head if people told them that they import food from the mainland, for example. So you are not alone in your plight and thankfully there are loads of really sensible people on here! So there......

Thanks Hobbs. I´m not rich but if something is good for Merlin I´ll try my best for him. I prefer investing in his health so he can be with me for a very long time.
