Re: Pancreatitis......

We have to give her six tiny meals a day of Hills i/d and one hour before one of them her anti-emetic.

Trouble is my other Siamese is a bit of a grazer and is use to having his food on tap wet and dry (he is 17) they also have food on standby during the night.

Any advice please?

Re: Pancreatitis......

Hopefully the blood results will be back today. I am dreading it.

Re: Pancreatitis......

Caroline-I really wouldn't worry. There are worse diagnoses than pancreatitis let me assure you of this, even if confirmed. A lot of cats cope very well with it.

Good luck with results.

Thank you for your kind words.

It's odd I can cope with lots of human problems (I suppose it's because I am a nurse) but pet related illnesses cause me to go into a panic.
I fear the worse all the time. My two are really quite spoiled (by all of us) so it's hard then to be rational.

Re: Pancreatitis......

She is quiet today and didn't want her breakfast I am hoping that it is just me worrying over nothing..........she is now sitting looking at her bowl of water.........

Although I have a insurance the vet costs a packet £30 for a quick once over yesterday.

She has had a poo which was normal to start with but then there was a big lump of mucus with faint traces of fresh blood.

I have phoned the vets and she said put her back on her medication and if she has eaten by 5pm to phone her.

Re: Pancreatitis......

Have the tests results come back yet Caroline? The recent symptoms you describe sounds like a touch of colitis though the two conditions often occur together. Pancreatis can cause them to feel nauseous, hence food refusal.

Hope she's better now.

No, results not back yet.

I put her back on the anti-emetic (as ordered by the vet) and a little while later she ate some of her Hills i/d. I have just been up to her to give her some more and she ate it willingly.

I don't know if there is a time limit a cat can be on Emiprid.

I have to take her back at 5pm to have some antibiotics. Our vet is not in the same town so I have to get a taxi there and back as I don't drive.

Re: Pancreatitis......

Gosh those results are taking a long time then. I had mine in 2 days from Idexx so I wonder where the vet sent them! Not the Texas lab?

I appreciate it must be difficult not having your own transport.
Is she getting the antibiotics via injection? Since stress can be a factor with Pancreatitis I'd be inclined to just collect them with your vets consent of course.

My own cat was on i/d at one stage though he did go off it and I had to switch to d/d in the end. Now on normal cat food.

Re: Pancreatitis......

I live in Wales (UK).

Coco does get very stressed out going to the vets she cries all the time and is practically hysterical. She is not use to leaving the house at all or having contact with anyone else.

She was on the tablet version of antibiotics when she came home (and what a fuss that was as well).
