Re: This is a question for Hobbs

I use a premix called Instincts and get this from Germany, I've been using this for making raw for the other one. They do the one with and without liver powder and was put together by Natascha Wille, it's not the one from America. Do you know this one or had you another pre mix in mind.

Raw Meat Cat Food

Since it's vet referral for the pet nutrition, interested to see what they recommend, yes like you not too keen on too much carb. He seems to be doing well on the premix and chicken I make up (though has been trial and error to suit his fussiness) with the addition of the salmon, may have cracked it, he had no hesitation to eat. However with experience, you think you find something then they change the goal posts and you're back to square one!! I make in small batches, am freezing in ice cube tray the ready made batch now since I realised I could freeze cooked meat and also the premix I use as well.

I like you keep at least 2-3 good quality in rotation so they get balanced feeding. Just like humans, no cat is alike, what works for one might not suit another and important to be flexible rather than to be rigid with formula

Ah yes, I have come across that service. I had a snoop once and found some free recipes but they seemed to be rather carb heavy, which might not be a bad thing for your boy though.

Have you looked into other supplements such as Premix, which I believe you can use with cooked meat? You just need to add liver to meat. A tad costly but might be a good alternative. Or would it? If your cat isn't good with a lot of meat.? Sorry just typing as i am thinking lol
Yes I'm not sure what the problem is, because he has no problem with the HC I make up for him and this is chicken, also with Lily's as well and that has 60% of meat from memory of the top of my head however no offal. The other PAH one which is pate style and high in meat is 'purely' 90% meat and another similar, can't remember the name, they do dog food as well- these not only don't appeal to my two, the boy has same 'reaction' where he goes lethargic like the meal is weighing his little tummy down, not nice to see

Yes! That is the stuff I meant. You get it from Nicole right? One of my cats - Hobbs - absolutely loves that stuff. Bagpuss does too but it contains something that he is sensitive/allergic too and it goes straight through him.

Good old icecube trays - come in handy in so many ways. Though I use plastic pots (free from BHA) that were developed for babies and that are reusable, dishwasher safe and suitable for freezing to freeze my raw concoctions in.

Thinking of Nature's Harvest as the one that is similar to Purely Scrummy Yummy? Better stay off that anyhow considering how much calcium to phosphorus it contains. Also that food contains more minerals than ash content, so something is not quite right there with the analysis.

Out of interest, how does he do with "high" meat content foods, such as Terra Felis or Power of Nature, that are surprisingly low in protein? Or have you not tried either (both are hideously expensive for what they are imo) because of the offal content? Though I think Power of Nature only uses muscle meat, no offal but I could be wrong.

I used to use tub bits to store, thought of ice cubes the other day, since the portions will be smaller and less waste, I'll see how I get on.

They do different range for premix, I get the calcium from bone one for the boy and the girl has the liver one. Yes Nicole and I drop each other emails, I like how they include a toy and a human treat, is extremely courteous of them to do this

Where do you get the baby tubs from?

Yes, all of the German suppliers do this - some sweets for humans and a toy for the furbabes. Such a lovely touch.

Have you ever tried the dried chicken breast snacks for your cats? Hand on heart those are the best treats in the world as voted for by my cats and Aurelia's pack is also quite partial to them.

I got those pots from Ireland: Babypotz : Containers for Freezing Baby Food - BPA Free, though you can get a sample box of different sizes from UK suppliers. If you are only freezing small amounts at a time then the small size should do you and they come in a lot of 50 for 13 euro or something (and the are BPA free, not BHA whatever that might be).

Yes agree with the NH, don't feed them this now having like you looked at ratio of different minerals and so forth. Also I spoke to the 'director' of company and wasn't that impressed. It's extremely helpful someone as like yourself who is obviously passionate about what you feed your fur balls takes time to research and makes the effort to inform others with the 'knowledge' so at least people are 'aware' and 'awakened' to what's out there, what's behind the advertising so to speak. Even with choosing to feed organic to our cats, we realise not everything with the "O' word is necessary good. So important we ask questions about what is in the food and where is it sourced from.

Not tried the couple you mentioned, however with the ZP tin, does not do well at all, stools are fine just general wellbeing. I wonder whether it is too much offal, however with the dried ZP, he is fine with this, is indeed a mystery.

Hmm strange - perhaps that has something to do with the way it is being manufactured?

There is a new food to be had in Germany that is getting people excited. Imported from the US and called Hound and Gatos. Don't think they use by-products but it isn't organic.

Anyhow, sounds as though you are pretty sorted at the moment. Though if you are looking to expand your range, send me a pm if you want to try the power of nature food; I can send you a tin.

Thanks Hobbs, these look superb, did you get yours from the website? I think I shall opt for small size

Yes they have chicken treats, similar to Thrive however they're not keen on the dry strips you can buy from ZOOPLUS or Germany, have tried them on all different kinds. I may just stick to the ZP dry if this seems to be fine for him, see whether he continues to like the chicken, salmon, premix as well as Lily's. Even in the HC recipe, I have sussed out he prefers the thighs, legs over breast, maybe it's because the breast is bland and hasn't got the enticing smell as like the cooked thighs, legs.

Is all an adventure and funnily enough, since I am passionate about people's health including nutrition, seems to have stretched to the the time, investment in the care of our animals at home. My motto is if is it not good enough for me to eat, I wouldn't feed to them.

Well it's been lovely to connect with you. I note a lot of people value you Hobbs and what you bring to this forum. I am appreciative for your uniqueness and for the way you go the extra mile, this is indeed a rare and beautiful gift, you are a rare and beautiful gift, unique in that there is only one of you. I love the name 'Bagpuss' brings back childhood memories of a favourite of mine, 'it's nice to have a cuddle.' Sleep well

You too! We are all bringing something to this forum, and we all add to the knowledge that is part of the PF but thank you for your kind words. Bagpuss also says thanks as he typically only gets referred to as a saggy old cloth cat who is a bit loose at the seams in our house!

Nice chatting to you and take care!
