You shouldn't just be worried about worms etc from raw food there are lots of other dangerous organisms and mince should always be frozen previous to feeding. Do a search on it before accepting everything read on here to be correct, you cats health is far too important to not read all you can.

Neosporosis Caninum, a parasite that affects the brain, may be found in raw mince. This parasite is obliterated when raw food has been frozen

Just wondering whether a raw diet alongside a sensitive biscuit would help.
Definately. Raw food can work "miracles". Whenever someone ask me for advice about a cat with diarrhoea I tell them to feed the cat raw lamb or beef mince and carrot puree for a week. In 9 cases of 10 the cats are fine after about 3 days.

I've also helped a few owners with seriously ill cats by making them switch to a raw diet. Cats that have been through steroid treatment, had biopsies taken, eaten every prescription diet for intestinal problems and so on. Cats that the veterinary expertise have given up on. They've been nursed back to perfect health only by switching to a completly raw diet.

I've raw fed for 5 years now and I've never had any problems with any of the pathogenes experts claim cats on raw will become ill from. I don't deworm regulary. I do fecal samples and deworm when they in fact do have worms (during 5 years I've only had one case of worm and that was caused by the cats living outdoors for a few weeks during the summer and they "raw fed" themselves ).

That sounds fantastic - do I have to feed any biscuits alongside this diet??? I have tried literally every vet diet going and nothing has helped and fecal samples have come back clear.

I would appreciate it if you could give me some more information such as how much to feed and what types of raw you give etc....just so I know where to start!

Re: Feeding Raw

Neospora caninum is a canine disease (caninum gives it away) that can occur in all dogs wether they have been fed raw or not. It is the dog equivalent of Toxoplamosis inthe same parasite. There is some evidence that this has affected feral cats there is little evidence that domestic cats have been infected.
Like Toxoplasmosis it is normally passed on through faeces this is confirmed as there is a high infection rate in dairy cows and they don't eat meat. There are reports that this can be passed on through raw meat but there is little actual research that confirms this.

Re: Feeding Raw

If you don't want to feed raw, I have heard many cases where Iams Hairball dried food has cured persistent diarrhoea. It has to be fed as the sole food though, at least until there is an improvement.

Also, have tests been done for tritrichomonas foetus?

I can understand how frustrating this must be, but I really don't believe that any cat should have persistent diarrhoea with no underlying cause. It's just a case of finding the cause, which can prove to be very difficult sometimes

Re: Feeding Raw

I completely agree with you KK Trouble is a lot of vets aren't willing to help with TF. I myself left my vet surgery of 8 years beacause of exactly that. I have now found a practice who are brilliant just ashame that others may not be so lucky

Re: Feeding Raw

I'm sure many vets are simply not aware of it as affecting cats - luckily (touch wood) i haven't had TF in any of my cats but whenever I hear of a cat with persistent diarrhoea that doesn't respond to conventional treatments or diet changes, I always think of TF! I'm glad you managed to find a sympathetic vet eventually.
