Oscar is a very big cat but he just suffers badly with diarrhoea. Sometimes it's not too bad and is just like a cowpat, other times it is really runny and lots of it too!!! I have tried so many different diets as recommended by the vet but I have heard many people say about feeding raw because it helps firm everything up!

Just wondering whether a raw diet alongside a sensitive biscuit would help.
i'm looking into this at the moment as we have a lil Tonkinese with horrible diarrhea in at the moment. fecal sample went out the other day should have some results soon. not sure what to expect though. even on the RC prescription sensitive squirts are still horrible. the kitten is completely fine otherwise healthy looking great sweet loving temperament. we're thinking gardia or IBS/IBD we're hoping it's just gardia and easily treated if it's IBS/IBD she may need Cortisone injections for the rest of her life

I have treated for Giardia so know it's not that and have sent off fecal samples which are completely clear. He is a very big boy, very active and healthy with no vomiting whatsoever or any other nasty symptoms.

He has been on Hills I/D which started to make an improvement but is now making no difference whatsoever. I don't think it is IBS or IBD as his sister had it too and another cat we brought in had it as well although the 2 girls are much improved now thankfully. Again, all of them tested clear in fecal samples. Only thing that was slightly raised was their clostridium levels but the vet didn't think they were high enough to be causing the problems.

I would definetly try raw chicken and lamb to start. When Audrey came to us she had very loose stools, they've only really started being 'firm' since moving onto raw. I'd definetly reccomend it

has your vet tried a cortisone injection to see if there's any result?

Nope...he seems to think they had a virus as babies, hence it getting passed on to our other one, and it is going to take their digestive systems a while to get over it. However, it started when they were 9 weeks and they are now nearly 8 months. The girls are definately much improved (although the fireworks last night have set them back!) but Oscar just isn't getting better.

That's why I was thinking about a raw diet because I have tried everything else!

did you have any result with just boiled chicken diet? i seem to remember you saying you didn't which would make me think the raw may not work. give it a go and if no result over a month of raw feeding maybe ask your vet about the cortisone injection?

Nothing has made a difference with him to be honest and it's very frustrating. I have tried the RC sensitive, RC kitten, boiled chicken, Hills I/D...think that's it! And yet the girls have shown massive improvement with one on the Hills I/D and one on the RC sensitive.

What does the cortisone do???

Re: Feeding Raw

Worming really depends on what meats you provide. If you provide fresh, especially pork or game then you should worm regularly. If the meat has been frozen for two weeks then worms are not an issue as the freezing kills the worms and larvae.

Have you tried rabbit with the bengals? I know 10 breeders of bengals who feed almost nothing but rabbit.

I'm really working on feeding mine on raw but my Bengal is not into meats! I've tried everything from fish, raw and cooked beef, prawns(raw and cooked), chicken(raw and cooked, boiled and grilled!) and no luck so far! Trouble on the other hand is a porker! and will have it all hahah but i can't get her to eat wings, only raw or cooked chicken pieces. I'm going to see if i can get some ground up chicken with bone from the butcher next week and see if that goes.
