My new kitten has a cut in his ear? Please help:S

My new baby was given away at 5/6 weeks, he was rescued from this awful house which was dirty and horrible.

I have just got him after he was fostered by a friend so my cats didnt get anything. And i noticed on his ear there was like a patch that was rough just at the tip. I thought it may be dry dirt because he was from such a dirty house.

Ive just noticed tonight that if you bend the ear there is a slice in it. about 1.5 cm from the very tip, and right in the middle of the top surface of the ear. It is as if someone has got a knife and tried to peel his ear like a potato if you know what i mean?

It looks quite deep, but its diagonal otherwise it would have gone through the whole ear probably. But- its all dried. There is no blood i can see and nothing that looks angry- its just a little bit dry.

It is serious? It doesnt look like it would heal back because its dried out so much! So i cant see stitches ever working! But im not sure. Do i need to get it vet check urgently? He can have his first injections next week should i just wait until then? Please help im worried xx

Do you have a picture to give us a better idea?

Unless it's red, infected or inflamed or itchy or appears to be bothering him I'm sure it's OK to wait until your visit next week. Of course if you're concerned or see any changes then bring the visit forward. Sounds like an old injury to me.

Welcome to PF!

Thanks SO much. Yeh it looks old! the end of his ear feels like its been chewed! No it doesnt seem to bother him really so think i will wait. 2 lots of vet bills will be silly! Bless him. Cant get a picture its just goes blury cos u have to get so close to see it and it is between the fur.

My boyfriend said his ear is still coloured inside at the tip and still has lots of fur. so i think its probably still in tact. I just hate seeing a big slice peeling off! xx

See I would disagree and take him to the Vets as I would worry about it.

Incidentally, is the same apparent on the other ear? Cats do have a sort of skin-flap on the outside of the ear about half-way down. This is quite normal. It just struck me you may be referring to this!

I too wondered whether she is referring to that.

No its definately a little slice in it! Well he is going to the vets asap next week, he needs his injections anyway!

I am wondering if the vets may put some skin glue on it maybe. But it doesnt seem to bother him if i press it, its just bumpy feeling right at the tip. I just dont want it to die and be cut off! xx

Since it obviously worries you why don't you bring the appointment forward to this week?
