Feeding kitten

Hi i'm new to the forum so i hope this is the right place to post my question. I just got a 8 week kitten (i know this is young but momma cat had died ) three days ago and he is great

However when it comes to feeding he wont go to his food when he is hungry. He cries and we pick him up and take him to his food and then he eats it. Is this just him forgetting where it is?

We have also put some dry food out and a couple of dreamies but he has only sniffed them so far. I'm not sure he knows what to do with them lol How can we encourage him to try them?

Re: Feeding kitten

I wouldn't to be honest. Feeding a wet only diet is much better for cats and kittens It's a myth that it's good for their teeth, if anything it can be bad for their teeth because all the little fragments of dry can get pushed into the gums and rot away.

You sure he is 8 weeks? It may be that you've given him too much room to explore too soon, so he doesn't yet know where to find his food. It's advisable to keep new kittens to one room to start with. Once they are using their litter tray, eating and drinking OK then you can expand their living area a bit more. Less likely to get any problems that way

Re: Feeding kitten

Thank you for the reply Yes he is definately 8 weeks. He has had lots of room to explore (Kitchen, hall and living room) so that is probably the problem. Although he has been able to find his litter tray and we haven't had any accidents yet.

Re: Feeding kitten

You should try with something that your cat loves to eat. Feed small amounts of food on a frequent basis. Try to offer both foods (wet and dry) separately to your kitten. If your kitten is not eating well after a couple of days, you should take advice of a vet.
