Albert has a sore eye

Hi Everyone,

Last night when I got back from work I noticed one of Alberts eyes looked a bit sore - he was sort of winking at me. When I tangled a toy in the air for him he was able to open it pretty much fully, but it looks quite wet. I wiped it with a damp cloth, but this morning it doesn't look any better.

He is ten months old and quite playful with his brother, so I am wondering if
might have scratched it when playing.

Really I want some advice over what to do, is a trip to the vets needed or might it sort itself out?

Incidentally he is an exotic shorthair and has big round eyes like an owl - probably makes no difference but thought I would mention it!

Re: Albert has a sore eye

Where eyes are concerned I would always err on the side of caution. If it is still looking watery I would give your vet a call for advice.I would rather look a bit of a fool at the vets than risk eye problems

Re: Albert has a sore eye

He is off to the vets tomorrow morning, it doesn't look any worse but isn't normal still. If it is just a scratch, will the vets give me drops for it?

You could ring and ask the vet if it's ok to bathe it in the meantime.

One of mine is prone to getting into play fight related eye injuries and I bathe his eye with a very weak salt solution. I wouldn't advise that though without checking it's ok first.

Re: Albert has a sore eye

I am pleased to say Alberts eye was normal again this morning, so I have cancelled the vet appointment. I did bathe it in some weak salt water last night, so it might have just done the trick!

Re: Albert has a sore eye

One of mine came back from the cattery last week with slightly runny eyes, just runny, no yellow stuff. He wasn't bothered by them at all, so I followed the instructions in the cat first aid book I have, which also said to bathe using a salt solution, with the intention of going to the vet's if it didn't clear in a couple of days. The bathing sorted it and he's fine now.
