Lynx Runny Eyes

She has a lot of discharge from her right eye which is a clear colour and her eye is a bit swollen and half closed since she can't open it properly.

We have put cats eye drops in her eye and she had her vacinations/boosters last week.

Anything else we need to do for Lynx besides TLC and is it normal for long haired cats? I have been reading about Conjunctyvitis and she has a squint eye.

Re: Lynx Runny Eyes

Get her to the vet! You should never (IMO) self medicate eye problems. You can not possibly know for sure what it is!

It sounds like she could have something in her eye ... Get her to the vet hun.

I know but my mom thought it was a good idea to do it and give her antibiotics from the last vet visit (she is a medical person, but thinks she can do animals also it is her cat anyway.

Lynx seems to be improving a lot anyway, but going to monitor her since vet only opens at 3 pm or 7 am to 9:30 am. Plus lynx is going to the cattery on friday so want it to be fixed asap.

Re: Lynx Runny Eyes

Well you're mum is naughty then But seriously you should not self medicate your animals ... and definately not with antibiotics left over from a previous vet visit Does that mean the course was not finished?

Also if it's some sort of virus (because there is a long list of what it could be) her going into a cattery may be a bad idea.

She used the medicine from Sapphire who died from a failed spaying, but I think the eye drops was from when we had Chloe the black cat.

Can the other cats catch the virus at home if so then I don't want them to catch it?

Edit: with the right details

Re: Lynx Runny Eyes

Well until you know what is actually wrong with her eye you won't know hun. So please just get her to the vet. If it is debris the longer it's left in the more damage it could cause too.

Re: Lynx Runny Eyes

You have to be very careful self diagnosis is never advisable and neither is using meds prescribed for other cats.Where eyes are concerned using the wrong medication could seriously damage her eye. Please as Aurelia has said make sure you take her to a vet and have her eye checked.

I contacted my vet but she is busy in surgery so can't see her until she has finished the OP's, but she will phone me when she is done.

Re: Lynx Runny Eyes

The vet said it was just something which scratched her eye. She gave her drops and a injection and we have to carry on giving her eye drops every few hours.
