Re: Arthritis & Renal Probs

My old cat had chronic renal failure and wouldn't eat the renal food, just licked the gravy off.
We came up with the solution of shredding a piece of cooked chicken into the food and nuking it in the micro for 10 secs.
Cat scoffed it like crazy after that and we had an extra 2.5 yrs of with her.
Sadly age caught up with her and she is now on the rainbow bridge.
We now have 2 Russian Blue monsters lol.
Hope all goes well for you.

Urea was 18.7................now 17.2
Phosphorus was 2.25.......now 1.97

The vet said to continue with the Renalzin, one squirt twice a day. She to was also surprised at the amount his creatinine level had dropped and I have wondered whether the previous vet got the right results tbh.

She said that if there is a noticable change in him then take him back to have up to date bloods done otherwise let him be.

We now call him the come back cat
Thank you Jayne, A decrease of 91 for Creatinine if very remarkable indeed. Yes, since phosphorous should be treated when 1.9> then yes I think vet is wise to recommend continuing with the Renzalin since the lower the better. I suppose you could say he's on the 'at risk' CRF register!

Well, the lab equipment might be faulty but another explanation for the rise and subsequent fall might be a mild kidney infection which he managed to overcome. Or high BP that was treated. Anyway very glad to hear he's doing soo well. Keep up the good work!

That's an excellent idea and one that CRF owners would benefit from knowing since it can be soo difficult to get some cats to eat the renal food. Glad you had those additional 2.5 years!
