Starving then feeding

Bilbo had slight diarrhea and phoned vet yesterday for advice. Was told to starve for 24 hours then feed chicken - so did this starved for 24 hours then gave him 1/2 cooked chicken breast.

Question is what to do tomorrow as both me and partner are at work all day 8.00-6.00. I have 1/2 chicken breast to give him but should i also put down a bowl of his dry food? Dont want him to get poorly again but at the same time dont want him to be hungry all day as know the chicken will be gone within an hour.

you should feed boiled chicken for 4 days and then slowly introduce normal food again either with the chicken or in small amounts for example:

today - boiled chicken
tomorrow - boiled chicken
thursday - boiled chicken
friday - boiled chicken
saturday - spoonful of normal food with chicken
sunday - two spoonfuls of normal food with chicken
monday - normal bowl of food no chicken.

you can feed the chicken before you leave and then when you return home. the idea is to give the gut a break and to let the bacteria recoop so too much food might upset this. he should be fine and you will find he's a bit hungry in the evening just give him as much chicken as he wants long as it's boiled not fried, grilled or roasted.

How come it needs to be boiled? Was not told that just told cooked chicken.

It was fried in small amount olive oil.

May sound bit silly but am vegetarian and would not even know where to begin with boiling chicken!

Re: Starving then feeding

Because it keeps it very plain - fried would make it greasy so not great on a sensitive tummy!

I normally just chuck it in the saucepan with a load of water and boil it for ages - just to make sure! The cats don't think much of it though because it is very bland!

Re: Starving then feeding

I wouldn't worry too much to be honest - my cats are constantly scavenging stuff they shouldn't and they don't seem to suffer too much!

You could always have a supply of RC sensitive food in the house. I give that to mine as soon as they start with the squits and it clears them up brilliantly!
