Re: What should I feed my Bengals?
![]() This should be more accurate. Seems to be 1-2% away from your numbers though Hobbs. Useful for viewing everything at once and drawing comparisons though. ps - sorry about size. It's my thread anyway! hah ![]() Last edited by fadeaway; 17-08-2011 at 11:30 PM.. |

Re: What should I feed my Bengals?
Despite the lower meat content, nature's menu looks pretty good. I am confused about their carb calculations though..
Is it me or is purely from pets at home with 90% meat really good? pity there's only 2 flavors. Petnatur, granatapet, macs and power of nature all look pretty good for imports. Dead low carbs, pity it's all fat instead rather than protein. Odd that the two most expensive have the least meat and most offal... and the two cheapest have the most meat and least offal. I'm not sure I would want to pay extra to get petnatur or granatapet for less overall meat and worse offal ratio. Grau and animonda are good meat content (not sure I like the amount of beef in everything animonda though. I think their carb content is a bit high though. Need to investigate shipping costs from euroland.. |

Re: What should I feed my Bengals?
Hi Fadeaway,
All the foods you have listed are good quality and if you fed any then your cats would be on a better diet than probably 95%+ of the cats out there. I feel it's important to feed a variety, not just of flavours but also brands for a number of reasons so rather than picking just 1 I would pick 2 or 3 as a minimum. I have fed all those you have listed in your most recent post and would be happy to continue feeding any of them. The carb content in both Grau and Carny isn't excessive and particularly if fed in rotation with other brands would be of no concern to me neither would the fat content of any of those foods listed. Obviously what also may ultimately dictate what you feed is what your cats are willing to eat, some can be right fussy little monkeys whilst others will literally eat anything. With a lot of cats it's as much about texture as flavour, of the foods listed there is a big range of textures from very dense Pates such as the Purely, to very light almost blancmange like pates such as Power of Nature, Petnatur is quite mincy and Granatapet which looks like proper solid meat. Postage from Europe is quite reasonable and the ordering process is suprisingly straightforward, I order from Floyd Pfotenshop which charges something like 10.50 euros up to 30kg plus a minor charge for payment by Paypal. Re: What should I feed my Bengals?
So, you went through all of your spreadsheet hassle to derive out our conclusions?
But it is always good to work things out oneself. I can only wholeheartedly agree with Ali though. Variety is the spice of life and food rotation is important for the following reasons: Contrary to those beliefs and practices, one certain "do" when it comes to wet (and dry) feeding in my opinion is to find a few (say 3 or 4) brands of food of equal quality that your cats will eat and feed them and their flavours in rotation. That is for three main reasons: 1) it helps combat possible boredom with their food 2) no food is perfect and by feeding a few different foods you are maximising the chance that you are feeding a balanced diet in terms of nutrients (and are minimising the likelihood of any harm if you are feeding a food that has got a nutritional problem or that is in some way contaminated) 3) if a manufacturer changes the recipe or even discontinues a certain product you are feeding then you are not stuck up the creek scrambling around for something else your cats might eat. And them tinkering with their recipes happens more often than you might think. PS: Some manufacturer feeding guidelines need to be tweaked in your spreadsheet, which may change your view slightly. Also, it is important not to consider just the meat content and the macronutrient content but also the ingredients in full as well as the mineral/vitamin content. |
