Fitting in cats

Hello. I literally just joined the forum because I was wondering if anyone could help me.

I have a 12 year old cat named Tom. He has always been quite a bad tempered cat but he can be nice when he wants to be

Anyway, about half an hour ago, I got a fright because he was asleep on the couch next to me and suddenly he woke up, sat up, opened his mouth and started making a really strange snuffling noise and it look like his head was twitching. It almost seemed like a fit. It's kind of hard to explain what happened as it happened so fast and only lasted a couple of seconds but should I be worried? Does it seem like it was a fit? He's fast asleep now so I'm assuming he's fine for the moment?

I'm probably just being paranoid but any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks,
Erin x

Re: Fitting in cats

Hi Erin,

I do not think that this occurrence is anything to worry about. It is quite possible that he may have been having a bad dream that made him react this way.

Though you can never be too cautious, and if you are quite worried you should take him to the vet.

I am assuming that the vet will want you to monitor Tom to see if this continues to happen. The best thing to do might be to make a log of the occurrences if and when they continue to happen. That way you (and the vet) will be able to see if there is a reason why this might be happening.

Keep us posted on how he is doing, and good luck!
