Confused by German vets: anyone here from Germany?

Hello,

We live in Berlin and have 2 20-week-old kittens, Dexter and Giselle. I went into 2 nearby vets' to make an appointment to get them neutered and spayed. However I was told that they get neutered at 8 months and spayed at 6 months.

I thought this decision is ours to make? I didn't argue then as I wasn't so confident in my German skills, plus the setting didn't seem to be appropriate for a long discussion as the setup was waiting room with other people + pets, and a separate vets room, and the vet just comes out and calls the next person - I was hoping there'd be some sort of reception and a person I could speak to.

Is there anyone here familiar with German vets? Or know any good vets in Berlin? I'm going to ring the girl I got Dexter & Giselle from, and ask if we could go to her vets, but she lives quite a bit away and it wouldn't be very practical in the long term as I'm hoping to find a good vets near us.

Thanks in advance!

I'm not German but I do know that veterinary practices can differ from country to country. Unless you can get a vet over.there to comply with your wishes I think you might have to wait until the time speciified by them. However, another vet might have an alternative view.
