Question Newbie which needs help with cat food!

Hi everyone
I'm getting two kittens in about 8 weeks time (they was only born Friday) and I'm completely clueless about what to feed them... Whether it's wet or dry or a mixture! Please please pleaaasseee help as I want to make sure they get the best of the best.
If you could recommend some brands of kitten foods and then maybe tell me when to put them on adult cat food then that would be great!
Sorry to be such pain, but regardless of reading the A-Z of wet and dry foods I still don't know
I've never been a cat owner so I'm kinda oblivious to it all... Getting on to the research though!
Thanks

Re: Newbie which needs help with cat food!

it really all depends on you. How much you can afford to pay for food?
My vet always tells me that a 100% dry food is best as its good for the teeth but it can also cause problems because of the lack of moisture!! confusing eh!!
I used to feed my kitties on good quality wet food, iams pouches, natures menu, hi life, and i keep a bowl of arden grange dry food out all the time. i have recenty started introducing raw food.

However i know lots of people who feed their cats on the supermarket brands which are alot cheaper and their kitties are fine.

decide what you can afford and buy the best you can. i woould give wet food and keep a bowl of dry out. always keep a bowl of water out too!!

Re: Newbie which needs help with cat food!

Hobbs has written some very good advice on cat nutrition and they are in the cat nutrition section as stickys. Why don't you take a look, it might help you make your mind up on what is the best course of action for you.

I'm not too fussed about money, it's just I don't want to spend ridiculous amounts of money on a not so good food lol.
Thanks for your help. It looks like I'll be doing a lot of trials lol!
Thanks again

Re: Newbie which needs help with cat food!

Hi,
Just make sure you keep them on the same food they are used to till they have settled in. Make any changes VERY gradually so you do not upset their tummys. I'm by far an expert on this but it seems that wet food is generally better for them. Try to find one with a high meat content rather than cereals etc used to bulk the feed out and give no nutritional value. Hobbs thread it great for comparing these.
Ive never had kittens so you'll need some advice from people here with more experience with them. They have delicate little tummies.
People here will be able to advise further.

Congratulations and good on you for doing your research We need piccies when you can get them!!

Re: Newbie which needs help with cat food!

HI and welcome to the forum.Congratulations"in advance" on your new kittens.I'm by no way an expert on food and all I've learned has come from hobbs food guides and asking questions on here. You have I gather from your post, read the a-z food lists but have you read this guide which has also been compiled by hobbs , it explains everything in detail Feeding cats for beginners (and more seasoned cat owners alike) .If there is still something you need to ask a question on please just shout.Someone will be able to help
