Antepsin

Was given this by the vet for P, yet was only instructed to give it three times daily an hour before food.. Not on how many days for. There isn't a lot in the bottle, so I've just presumed I'm supposed to keep going until it's gone.. But she hasn't vomited after eating since her injections yesterday and has now had 5 doses of this Antepsin. As of tomorrow, three doses daily is going to be nigh on impossible due to work - baring in mind she hasn't vomited for around 36 hours and has eaten plenty in this time, should I continue to give it to her after tonight?

I tried looking up dosages online, only to find Antepsin is a fairly standard stomach treatment for all walks of life! So no help there..

Re: Antepsin

Glad to hear the vomiting has subsided.

To be on the safe-side I'd be inclined to finish the bottle. Just give her whatever you can manage tomorrow. Hopefully no further vomiting thereafter!

Re: Antepsin

Thanks Ianthi.

Just worked out a plan with the OH to get three lots down her tomorrow, requires a very early morning wake up call.. But she's worth it!

Yes, I can remember setting the alarm for earlier time ( NOT a morning person by any means! ) in days when giving morning meds before I went to work! Always glad when course was finished!

Re: Antepsin

... I want to cry, scream, anything! She just got hold of some of the others mince when I turned my back for a second and up it all came immediately.. She'd been doing so well on just the boiled chicken!

I'm starting to think this sounds more like regurgitation than vomiting.. She's not even remotely digesting it. But the chicken never revisited.. So argh, I don't know! :/

Re: Antepsin

Regurgitation usually points to food 'allergy' or something being wrong with the food and not an indication of illness etc.

These the same minces that made her ill in first place? That would make sense.

Re: Antepsin

Ach wish I'd seen your other thread before now Dante

Is it possible that she is regurgitating after food because she's jumping up or down on to something?

If I feed my girls more than about 40g in one sitting they do that if they jump up onto the table or something. It all comes straight back up.

Re: Antepsin

When she was initially ill she had been eating a mix of the mince and some wet food, so hadn't been sure. The mince she'd been eating for weeks, the wet food just for a few days. Think it's pretty obvious now which it was the mince, although I'm wary to feed her either ever again! Concerned about her only eating boiled chicken though too for too long

Re: Antepsin

No, she'll be OK on chicken for a few days. However, you could slowly re-introduce the wet food again and see how she responds. At later stage she may well be OK on a different batch of mince but you have to bear in mind the possibility she may have become allergic to it, as well. Hopefully not, though.
