Cat with a poorly lip

Hi,

Gus has hurt his lip. Yesterday I noticed a little bit of blood on it, which I believe is due to him catching his mouth on a toy.

Today there is no blood but if looks a bit sore

What do you think I should do - leave it a bit to see if it heals, or go to the vets?

I would say it looks worse in the photo than in reality.

Re: Cat with a poorly lip

What is it with cats this week? My boy has just done this to his nose and due to where it is, I think we're in for a long slow healing process. One little bash/lick and we're back to square one!

We took him to the vets after a day, as it was getting worse.. He licks it because it's painful, which I imagine your kitty will do too.. And in doing so, he's making it worse. So they gave us antibiotics and anti-inflammatorys to dull the pain so that he won't lick it as much.

Perhaps leave it a day to see if it gets worse, ours got obviously worse overnight.

I would boil some water, let it cool then mix in some salt and tea. You then use this to bathe his lip. Keep an eye on it and if it does not look like it is healing in a few days, take him to a vet. Salt water (a saline solution) has healing properties and tea is a mild antiseptic. I use this treatment on both humans and pets. It always works a treat.

I would keep a close eye on it Monty's lip looked like that the other day after he fought and lost with a Stag Beetle but it cleared up very quickly.

Re: Cat with a poorly lip

Thanks, I will attemt to wash it for him tonight. He hasn't shown any signs of it bothering him at all - no licking that I have noticed. I prodded it a bit to see how he would react (sounds cruel I know but I wanted to see how bothered he was) and he didn't react at all, I mean he moved his head eventually but then he would have anyway if I started trying to pull his lip up!
