Re: Fibre deficiency and raw diet question

I have been feeding prize choice since i had them. a teaspoon with every meal.

Skunk isnt a problem. She eats anything and everything not very fussy.

Rogue is very fussy. He will eat a type of food for about 3 days and WOLF IT (have to give several small meals to prevent vomiting), then try and get me to feed him something else by refusing it.

So i have been swapping foods around. iams and smilla, Prize choice and darf minces(Only bought a small amount to try him on)

Then last week i stopped giving him wet and dry and he ate like a pig for about 3 days of prize choice and then back to Darf minces.

But he didnt poop for about 6-7 days so we took him to the vet. He couldnt find anything wrong with him.

Then he pooped which was solid and very small. So we took him to a diff vet that said he was very constipated and gave him a laxative. Which worked but gave him the runs.

Took him back to the vets and he gave me a fibre powder. He said let me no it that works. So i rang up and told him yes it did work (a HUGE poop) and said its very likely to be IBS caused by fibre difiency and to start feeding one of their foods which has higher fibre. And see if it makes a difference.

He is now back on dry and smilla which he seems to prefer atm and i added oatbran to last nights meal and he had 3 more huge poops.

To be honest i would rather give a fibre supplement then feed one of the vets foods.

Got to take him back next week for a check up.

Costing me an absolute bomb. In under 2 weeks he has been to the vets 3 times and due to go again next week

Oh and he was huge because he was constipated. He was actually underweight when he pooped.

Oh come on! Are you serious? They must have been gigantic (bigger than big human ones) to have that much of an effect on his weight ... surely!

P.S I wouldn't personally class Prize Choice meat as raw, it's just processed rubbish IMO

Re: Fibre deficiency and raw diet question

Im not kidding.

When i say huge. you would be shocked! Looked like dog logs not cats.

He weighed 4.3kg at vets and i have weighed him since and he is 3.7kg.

Is that alot of weight difference?

Re: Fibre deficiency and raw diet question

I no prize choice isnt the best, Im just trying to find a food that he wont vomit back up. And will like long term.

It is going to be a struggle keeping him interested in the darf minces. He likes the blood in it. But if its been in fridge for more then 12 hours or so he just sniffs it and walks away.

Ever tried cutting up a frozen block of mince?

Re: Fibre deficiency and raw diet question

We use a cleaver to chop ours up It's hard work but not impossible.

So you're saying he's pooped out about 600g of poo? O....K

Do you feed the kitties on a work top? Also if you feed more frequently and smaller portions it may help things immensely. I'd start off with trying 8 meals a day, see how he goes.

Oh and it's DAF not DARF

Re: Fibre deficiency and raw diet question

Maby i should take a picture of the next one

And it STANK! Never smelt anything like it. Like a sewage pipe had burst *shudders*

Those DAF NOT DARF come in clear unsealed bags so woops rofl

Anyway enough of the poop.

Im hoping now i can prevent him from vomiting. Do you think it was me swapping food around that caused him to get ill?

And they get fed on the floor in the dining room or kitchen. (Depends how hungry they are and the likely hood of them tripping me up).

Will try smaller and more frequent meals lol

It is more likely that your scales are not as accurate as the vets are when dealing with lower weights.
