FIV+ cats - do they have to be indoor cats?

We were just chatting at work as I am getting a cat soon and so is one of my colleagues so we were just cat chatting and the following question was raised...

If a cat tests positive for FIV do they have to be kept as an indoor cat for the rest of their lives?

There is nothing to suggest the cat I am getting is FIV+ (though I am getting a test done anyway) it was just a wondering.

It would certainly be the responsible thing to do. Even if the cat is neutered / spayed it is possible it could infect others fighting etc.
