Antibiotic Allergy??? HELP PLEASE :(

Jango was started on Fusidic Acid yesterday for a ever so slightly crusty eye (and I mean EVER so slightly. The vet was erring on the side of caution and after just a day of antibiotics its pretty much clear)

however, since yesterday he has been vomiting I thought at first it was the car journey (he usually only vomits in the car though and NEVER once we get out of the car and are back on "solid ground". So I did think that was unusual)

But now he has been sick again this evening, even though he kept his morning meal down fine.

I am wondering if its a reaction to the fusidic acid drops i.e. he is washing his face with his paw and then licking it and thats making him sick?

The only other common denominator is the Natural Instinct minces which he has been FINE with otherwise. This morning I gave him Highlife Pate (as I thought that would be gentler on the stomach) and he had some fresh sardines (bought today) for lunch which he has been fine with before too. He didn't vomit at all during the day. He had the mince this evening which is very much what he has vomited up, clearly undigested.

Before he is sick he starts to lick his lips alot which is my warning sign to get up and grab him to quickly put him in the kitchen (tiled flooring, not carpet). He's not in any distress when he vomits or afterwards. He is now happily sitting next to me with no concerns in the world and was playing this afternoon.
Oh, and he has definitely been pooing and thats fine. He is also drinking water. And is still hungry, but I have taken his food away for now.

I am OBVIOUSLY taking him to the vet first thing tomorrow morning but am really worried

Am throwing the mince out asap just in case too. It was freshly dethawed though and hasn't been unfrozen at all since it arrived as I was here when it was delivered.

HELP

No warnings on the drops at all And I'm not sure why he would have been sick this evening, but not this morning

Hopefully it was just a mixture of haveing 3 different foods, you could always ring & ask the vet, if they are 24hrs or some insurance covers have a vet helpline, it would put your mind at rest

He's still bright and alert, so hopefully I am just being a paranoid Mum

Jango usually has a very good stomach and we have no problems with his food habits, but fingers crossed you're right!! Am sure the vet will tell me tomorrow I am just being silly and nothing is wrong!

Sometimes I wish I was a vet and not a human Dr Feel completely helpless. Am running through all my medical diagnosis for humans and I don't like any of them, so going to push them to one side and make an appointment first thing in the morning for him to be seen.

Poor little thing!

The lip-licking points to nausea and I'm wondering like you, if it's the mince since he vomited shortly after this-could well be the batch. I wouldn't feed him any more and see if it stops. The good thing is he's well otherwise.

Hope he's better soon!

Re: Antibiotic Allergy??? HELP PLEASE :(

Thanks for the reassurance you two feel a bit happier now.

Am throwing out the mince right now. Will stick to tinned stuff for now but not until the vet has seen him. Thats £100 in vet fees this week. Ah well, thats what being a kitten-mum is all about

Its probably just the mince sometimes one of ours brings fresh stuff straight back but she stufs it down like she has'nt been fed for a week & cant chew it anyway as she only has two teeth left strange how she was ok with the cooked roast chicken she robed of my plate the other day

Re: Antibiotic Allergy??? HELP PLEASE :(

Once or twice like this isn't usually much to worry about as it's often food, hairball etc related! Prolonged vomiting on the other hand is a different matter entirely.

Reckon he'll be over it by tomorrow.

Re: Antibiotic Allergy??? HELP PLEASE :(

look the drops up, the manu's website should have all the information you need (if there is no manufacturer details, any similar composition will have the same ingredients and therefore the same side effects).

it may not be an allergic reaction, just a reaction. allergies don't tend to cause someone to vomit.

it may simply be that the drops are horrible tasting and cause him to vomit, that with the motion sickness might make him more likely to vomit than he would if he hadn't been in the car...

worth taking back to vets to check tho.
