Grooming tools for Persian Kitten

A few questions about grooming - what do you use?

Do you use the same grooming tools for kittens as for adult cats?

Would you use the comb much more than a brush?

When would a brush be used instead of a comb?

Anyone heard of Spratts combs?

Re: Grooming tools for Persian Kitten

Hi Scarlett, welcome to the forums

I use a metal fine tooth comb (like the one below), and a furminator. I also have a soft brush, don't think it's any good but Molly likes it!

Soft Brush with Brush-Cleaner: Great Deals on Pet Brushes at zooplus

I do cheat a bit though, I take Molly to a pet groomer, every 5/6 weeks, and she makes sure she's well groomed and trimmed

Re: Grooming tools for Persian Kitten

I use a small metal comb more than anything else, with medium and fine teeth, followed by a slicker brush, similar to the one Jenny posted. I never use furminator on longhaired cats (I'm a cat groomer as well as owning 6 persians of my own ). When the coats thicken up at certain times of the year, I use the Mikki matt Breaker (I don't use it for mats as such, but its great to use with a combing action to remove dead undercoat). I bath and blow dry all my persians every couple of months or so, to keep their coats knot free.

Thanks for the replies Jenny and ambercat.

Would you use these items for grooming both kittens and adult cats or do I need something different for a kitten?

I would use the small comb and slicker brush for a kitten, but not the Mikki mat breaker until the adult coat starts to come in at about 1 yr old.

I tend to use only the slicker brush on my kittens, and even then, quite a small one at that. There's just no need for the comb for the first few months as long as you keep on top of the grooming.
