Hello everyone,
I really hope someone can help me please? I have a 2 year old female cat - she's an indoors cat so has not been spayed. She has been perfectly fine until last night/this morning. She seemed to be digging & fussing in her litter box last night but she did poop in it so thought she was just having a funny five minutes but this morning she seems to still be anxious & digging in her box but also keeps trying to pee but it doesn't seem to be coming out. Her appetite seems to be fine & she seems to be herself in her behaviours. I'm very worried about her - she's normally in such great health & has never had anything wrong with her. Any advice/help/guidance would be really appreciated - is there anything I can do to resolve this myself? Thank you so much! |

Re: My Cat Is Not Urinating!
You need to take her to the vets straight away. I would call them now and explain the situation.
Not urinating is potentially very dangerous if due to a blockage-more common in male cats but it can happen with females as well. Let us know how it goes. |

Re: My Cat Is Not Urinating!
Are you going to get her to the vets asap or are you just going to wait in the hope that someone is going to come on here offering you advice that doesn't involve a vet trip. That ain't going to happen.
Let us know what the vet said. |

Re: My Cat Is Not Urinating!
Definitely vets. This could be very serious.
She also needs spaying if and when she is well enough. Indoor cat does not mean you don't get them spayed...

Re: My Cat Is Not Urinating!
please please get her to the vets now, my two year old couldnt urinate and by the time i got him to the vet, his bladder was full, they rushed him through and gave him an anasetic so they could empty it, but he died under the anasetic,i will never forgive myself for not noticing earlier,as the vet thinks the toxins had started to go round his body, making him weak and ill. i hope your girl is ok, and the vets sort it.

Re: My Cat Is Not Urinating!
Took her to the vets yesterday & she has a small bladder infection which she has been given antibiotic injections for & I have to adminster liquid anti-inflammatories mixed in her food for the next three days to help ease the discomfort. She was peeing more normally this morning so hopefully the antibiotics will settle this now but I will obviously keep an eye on her for the next couple of weeks as advised by the vet. And yes I have spoken to the vet about getting her neutered too. Thank you for all your help.

Re: My Cat Is Not Urinating!
Good to hear this! Is the anti-inflammatory Metacam?
It's important to focus now on preventing another episode. Keeping that bladder flushed out is a must here so increasing fluids is important. If she's on dry I'd switch to a wet diet and investing in a water fountain could encourage her to drink more. Hope better soon. |

Re: My Cat Is Not Urinating!
Yeah it is Metacam
![]() I have been trying to give her both wet & dry food but will now increase the wet food & decrease the dry from now on. I'll check out water fountains for her - if anyone has any recommendations then that would be great ![]() |
