Bad Grau?

I placed an order with Zooplus last week that included 6 200g tins of Rabbit, Duck and Beef grain free Grau and 6 100g tins of the same. I opened one of the 200g tins on Saturday night fed half and put half in a tupperware in the fridge, I didn't really notice anything wrong at the time although thinking back she was slightly reluctant to eat it and didn't finish it all. Sunday morning I went to feed the other half and noticed it was a funny colour (dark grey / brown), there was loads of brown liquid in the bottom and it didn't smell right. I thought I might have not sealed it properley so just chucked it and thought no more of it. This morning I went to open another can and as soon as I opened it liquid shot out as if it was under pressure, on inspection again the meat was a funny browny grey colour and didn't smell right. This is my cats current favourite so I've seen a lot of it, it's usually a nice pinky colour with a meaty and slightly spicey smell. The 100g tins I ordered are absolutely fine.

Has anybody else noticed any quality problems recently with Grau?

I'm also worried now that I've fed her something that is almost certainly spoiled, although she seems okay.

Re: Bad Grau?

Hmm, no that doesn't sound right, I haven't fed this flavour of the grain free yet and I know they all slightly vary in colour and consistency but if they're normally pink then I would get on to Zooplus and explain, they're normally pretty good with this sort of thing.

Might be worth noting the batch number on the tin (if there is one) and if anyone else feeds the grain free Grau then they can check there's to make sure it isn't a dodgy batch. I feed some of the grain free flavours but only very occasionally and I dont think I have this one to check.

Re: Bad Grau?

Hi, I have contacted Zooplus so we'll see what they say. That's a good idea about the batch numbers, I'm at work at the moment but will post the batch number when I get home and see if anybody has any from the same.

Re: Bad Grau?

Ali - I've experienced the same with Bozita from Zooplus on a few occasions.

Last time I knew immediately when I opened the tins. The contents was far too runny and darker than normal and reminded me of food that was stored at very high temperatures-smelt odd as well. Needless to say the cats wouldn't touch it, not that I'd have expected them to! Quite a number of tins affected.

Zooplus refunded the amount in question. Had to submit the batch number.

Re: Bad Grau?

I have had a few tins recently where loads of juice has sprayed on me when I opened it but assumed it was from dents in the tin! Shouldn't I have fed it to them? They still ate it!

Re: Bad Grau?

Some of the dents I've seen on tins were so bad they were punctured which obviously affected the contents. In those circumstances I would never feed to the cats.

Any more I just ask for a refund! Zooplus really need to improve the packaging as I'm sure they're aware from all the complaints!

Re: Bad Grau?

I have just ordered my 2nd load of Grau from Zooplus as the wee ones are just finishing the 1st load. Some of the tins from the 1st batch were a bit brown on the bottom and smelled funny as you describe!!!! But as it was my first time having that food I thought maybe that was how it was meant to be as I know some of the british foods you get (like Hilife, natures menu etc) state on it that colour and consistency can vary because it's a natural product. So I thought the Grau might be similar but now I am thinking not!! I will be sure to send the tins back this time if there are any issues with them!

I have some Macs and a few other brands getting sent to me from Floyds, hope these are all ok?

Re: Bad Grau?

My tins were dented but not punctured so I assumed ok. They do sometimes smell a bit funny though but thats because I can't stand the smell of cat food anyway, so the smell of the Grau Heart and Liver really gets to me

Re: Bad Grau?

The batch number is C3-00602 and the best before date 14.04.2013. Does anybody else have any from this batch?

None of the tins are damaged in any way (must be a first for Zooplus)

Don't worry, a brown colour on the bottom of the can appears to be perfectly normal. All the others I've had are like this but they are all pinkish inside with a small amount of jelly and white fat visible. The ones in this batch are a consistent grey / brown like the colour of cooked mince and also have loads of brown liquid in.

Re: Bad Grau?

Exploding Bozita!

After the experience above I will admit that I never feel completely safe opening a tin of cat food nowadays! That was one of the most disgusting things I have ever dealt with in my life.
Zooplus refunded without quibble which they always do, but I was less than satisfied with the very brief formulaic reply i received to my message to Bozita themselves.
Annoying about Grau having the same problem, wa considering ordering some as my lot dont like the recent batch of Bozita.
