More concerns :-(

Hi Again,

I feel a bit silly posting yet more problems, so I thought I'd use one thread for all. Sorry if it becomes a bit of a ramble, here goes:

Problem 1: Hunter's Stool

Definitely better now on Natures Menu. The first section is dark brown and well formed, however, the second part is nearly always a bit runnier and like mucus, much lighter and almost transparent in parts - gooey. Any ideas what can cause this?

Problem 2: Hunter's neck area after neutering

Both Hunter and Hermione were neutered the other week and were fine. Hunter had a bald patch on his neck, presumably where they injected him? Anyway, the section has been growing back well, until the other day when we noticed a part of it has gone back to being bald again. Its about a 1.5cm square and the skin looks a bit flaky. We thought it maybe was from a scrap with Hermione but it just looks a bit odd given the rest of the section looks good. Anyone else had experience of this?

Problem 3: Hermione's Fear

Hermione has the last couple of weeks started having one or two accidents. This evening she wet herself on the bed. My OH walked into the room and and said 'you shouldn't be on there little one', then suddenly she starts weeing over the duvet. She also seems to be scared of my OH, tends to hide away when she hears his voice or his footsteps. We are wondering if it is because Mark tends to handle her and cuddle her quite a bit and is maybe a bit over-zealous with his affection? If she has become scared of him, how can we turn it round - should he ignore her for a few days?

Sorry for the lengthy thread - hope some people can shed some light on these niggling issues. Thanks so much. Mark and Caroline

Re: More concerns :-(

Firstly, regarding Hunter's stool - what you describe sounds like colitis ( inflammaton of the colon ) which is usually due to an allergy to an ingredient in the food. Not sure if Nature's Menu contains grains but that would be my number one suspect. Failing that it could be the protein source. This will only get worse if left untreated. I'd mention this to the vet. Pro-Kolin is very good in cases like this. Meanwhile switch flavour or to a differenet food entirely.

Hermione - Perhaps best if OH backs off for a bit and lets her come to him.

Thanks Ianthi - much appreciated. I don't believe Natures Menu contains any grains, but will switch flavours and see if that does anything. We've also just bought some Applaws dry which definitely doesn't contain any grains and is 80% chicken so will see how that goes in conjunction with their wet. We tried a bit of it yesterday and Hunter absolutely loves it.

how much did you try him on yesterday? That might be part of your problem, changing foods. I know when I tried mine on applaws they had slightly dodg tummies at first.

They have been on Natures Menu for a while now so I don't think it is that. However, he has really gone off the green chicken and turkey pouches, so have been keeping him on just the blue and red ones. Its not so bad now.

Its always tricky when one cat has a slightly more sensitive stomach than the other. We love them to bits though.
