kitty is sick :(

my kitty has diarrhea
took her to the vet this morning as i noticed it last night. she's pooping pure liquid and her 'third eye lid' is covering half her eyes. the vet gave her some medicine and prescribed some for us to give her. we havent changed the diet recently and the other cats dont have it.

im giving them all plain chicken for the next couple of days as a precaution and to settle her tummy. is there anything else i can do? im so worried

I thought you started giving them raw recently or was that someone else? I'm just wondering if he could have eaten something that didn't agree with him.

Is he dehydrated? and is he eating?

Also what medicine did the vet give him?

Re: kitty is sick :(

yeah we tried them with abit of raw chicken the other night but it was only one meal, they struggled to eat it. they currently eat high life

she seems to be eating and drinking okay at the minute, im just worried she'l stop if shes feeling poorly
vet gave her some pre/probiotic stuff to give them all. its only supportive. she thinks its a virus so thats all the can really do for now

Do your cats go outside? Why did she decide it was a virus? Did she do any tests? - does she think it's anything that your other cats are likely to get?

Make sure that she eats and drinks if she doesn't you certainly need to make sure that you get some water into her and if she gets any worse I'd ring the vet again.

What prebiotic has she given him out of interest? I found diarsanyl very good.

Re: kitty is sick :(

no they dont go outside at all. strictly indoor cats, especially as one of them is a raggie.

she said she was 99% sure it was a virus. lucys got a temperature and that together with the eye thing and the diarrhea the vet said it almost definitely was viral. no tests yet,
she gave me a sample bottle and said if no change within two days to get sample and bring her back in asap, which i definitely will

protexin its called

has he been to the loo much today?

If it's a virus is it something she thought your other cats could catch?

Re: kitty is sick :(

We had a girl who was terrible for ages, nothing we tried worked and all tests came back inconclusive. A friend suggested totally raw and not only is she solid but she is also putting on weight! They love raw chicken wings and beef mince with ox heart.

If it is viral then it should pass within 10 days but it might pay to feed raw with some vitamins. Dry food manufacturers can sometimes change the ingredients and it could also be the cause of runny tums.

Re: kitty is sick :(

I've not got any solutions or answers for the illness, but a Hi-Life pouch takes around a tablespoon of extra water pretty well just to help keep their hydration up.
