Kitten Diarrhoea

Firstly my apologies if i have made any spelling errors. I have a 9/10 week old kitten who has Diarrhoea. Obviously if it is prolonged or gets worse over the weekend I will have to take him to the vets but i was wondering if there were any other basic things i can try? Do i starve him for 24 hrs? He's currently having worming treatment so has to have this meal tonight but after that? He's had it For about a week and its not constant just every now and then (although he does go several times a day just not always watery). Could it be that i just dont feed him the same food as the previous owners? What do you think i should try first?
Any help appreciated.
Christine

Re: Kitten Diarrhoea

Have you telephoned the vets at least?
A week is prolonged diarrhea and in a kitten that age is dangerous and you need to go to the vet.

What are you feeding the kitten? Is he eating well?

eating extremely well. After he finishes his if'll go to finish the others but i have started to try and separate them so this doesnt happen. Its not constant. Some days he's been ok but some days if'll have some normal and some watery. Sorry for detail there.

Re: Kitten Diarrhoea

You say if its prolonged youll go tot a vet, but a week IS prolonged, especially in a very young kitten.

He needs to go to a vet.

Re: Kitten Diarrhoea

Certainly not feeding the same food as the 'breeders' could be one cause, and the stress from the move can make kittens a little loose, and the worming treatment can do the same - so there are three factors already. As it's only every now and then and not constant I wouldn't panic too much. Put him on a boiled chicken and water diet (boil the chicken in the water and use the water to cover the chicken in his bowl), for at least 48 hours. At the slightest sign of him being lethargic, off his food or dehydrated (pick up the skin over his shoulders and it should spring back - if not, dehydrated) or his third eyelid is visible when not sleepy, or being sick too - then straight off to the vets.

Re: Kitten Diarrhoea

thanks. From what you've said he's not dehydrated and still wants to eat loads, not sleepy either. Generally well in himself. When i did his litter there was only one looser stool so like i said not constant. Thanks for your help xxx
