Re: my stray cat

I dont feel great

Ben was doing a lot b etter. Her poo has been normal for two days now but this morning I have found that she had been sick during the night. And I think it might be my fault. I gave her some 'whiskas temptations' last night My other cat loves them and I thought she might too. Yes she did love them but they have obviously made her sick again
On top of that I have found little tiny tiny bits of black dots on her pillow this morning. Quite a bit and some of these tiny black dots look like a little hook. but they are so tiny it is difficult to see. You really have to get up close to it. Does anyone know what that is?
She doesnt have any fleas anymore (I dont think) I have double checked and combed her with a flea comb but there is nothing. It seem sto be all clean. The black bits seem to come from her back part of her body as well as little flaky white skin (I dont think the white stuff is worm eggs - I had given her a powerful treatment for worms and this white stuff looks more like flake y sking then tiny rice corns)
I wonder what the black dots are? Sosme of them look like a hook. I couldnt take a picture because they are just too tiny. Also they dont move and are flat. I dont think it is a living thing but I just want to make sure. I really need some advice.
I will take some of them black dots to the vet as soon as I have the car but in the meantime...anyone there with some advice?
I am so scared that my house will be infested with parasites now

Re: my stray cat

Your little black dots sound like flea eggs or larvae. If you put them on some white paper and squish them do you get a mark like blood? If so they are definitely flea eggs. You need to treat bedding etc with a spray to get rid of them. The white flaky bits could be skin - my cat gets it occsionally, a bit like dandruff. Did you use a spot on wormer or flea treatment? Reaction to this can cause flaky skin.
She is a lovely little cat by the way and well done for taking her in.
Don't worry about your home becoming infested - fleas aren't too difficult to keep under control.

sounds like flea dirt and larvae to me. if you put kitty over a piece of paper on the floor give her a good scrub with your fingers and get some of the dander and black specs on the paper then spray some water on them with a spray bottle or wet a paper towel squeeze it out and lay the paper towel down on the paper if they go brownie or red they are flea dirt and your cat still has fleas and you will need to continue using a stronger prescription flea treatment for her. If you get something like Frontline Combo or Stronghold or even Advocate if should get rid of the fleas on her and on her bedding. you will need to treat your other pets as well with correct dosage for them. There are different sizes of cat for Advocate but I do believe the Frontline Combo and Stronghold are sufficient for most average sized cats.

Re: my stray cat

Thank youso much everyone.
The bklack spots are gone and she is still alive. ALthough she is eatinga nd drinking and pooing ok she is not putting any weight on. She is also VERY old.
I think these are her last few weeks of her life and I am just glad she is in no pain and will die in warmth instead of the cold outside. WHat a horrible death
She sleeps most days and nights and only sometimes comes donwstairs to sit with us.
Thank you again for all your support!

Re: my stray cat

Aw, bless you for taking this old girl in. Even if she doesn't have long to go she will at least be loved at the end. You are a saint. Just keep going, doing what you are doing.
