Hi,
I have a 8 year old MALE cat, who recently has had a vet checkup due to him unable to pass urine. The vet simply set change his food from dry to wet cat food. We did as advised. He was also given an injection. This happens about once every 1-2 hours; Tim (The Cats name) lays down then all of a sudden, he looks as if he's seeing something 2 inches in front of his face, like a fly or a bug but there is nothing there and his head moves as if he is seeing something around him. His jaw also trembles. During this time, he is not responsive, we call his name and we dont get a reaction. He is quite a timid cat and any fast movements frighten him, and even fast movements doesnt register with him. After 3/4 mins he goes back to being in his original state. this is worrying and any information on what this could be would be very much appreciated. I was wondering could it be something to do with him not passing urine?? I have recorded the cat in the above state but im not sure if you are able to upload videos on here as I've just registered. I could email it to any1 who thinks they could help. Thanks |

Re: My Cat is having FITS. Advice needed!
You definitely need to contact your vet ASAP, how long has this been going on? Personally i'd ring the out of hours vet right away for advice.

Re: My Cat is having FITS. Advice needed!
Definitely vets straight away!
Was he not passing ANY urine??? If so, I'm shocked that a vet would just tell you to change his diet. I don't want to worry you unnecessarily but when Bayley had a blockage very recently, the vet told me that left untreated it could have caused serious long-term health problems (if not worse) as the build-up of urine not only affects kidneys but the excess of certain chemicals is dangerous for the brain. Again, I don't want to upset you...just think you should get him to the vet asap & if necessary give the vet who told you just to change his diet a serious talking to ![]() Laura x

Yes concur with all of the above. If you phone the out of hours vets then at the very least they will give you a call back and make a judgement as to whether they need to see him tonight. Please do make that call.
Please keep us updated.

Re: My Cat is having FITS. Advice needed!
i would explain the symptoms to your vet.
i have a cat who has fits and has done for the past 5 or 6 years. he is on phenabarbitone, but the symptons your cat has are not the same as mine. is your cat insured, because by past experience unless you can afford an mri scan then all they will do is put him on medication if they think it is a fit that he is having. does he go stiff when he is like this?
